A questions for all of you who have recovered after LIS. How long did you continue to use a stool softner after the surgery?

I was ordered by my CRS to go back on normal diet immediately(my normal diet is Mediterranean) and just take Metamucile 2 times a day. It worked for me great !
But, I was never constipated in my life, so maybe it was all that was
needed in my case Image

After my LIS I which was 10th january, I have been on flaxoil and aloe vera, and just eating a normal diet but making sure to have fruit and veg every day and drink a fair amount. I have never really suffered constipation, so dont take softeners. Before the op I was taking MOM but only 2 teaspoons every night.

I had my surgery on Feb26th and stopped taking my twice daily colace about 12 days after that. I still take a tablespoon of MOM at night and two fishoil pills twice a day. I'm trying to stop the MOM but over a course of a few months. Sometimes I skip a dose if I know my daily intake was good enough to get the ball rolling smoothly however since the surgery even when I do have large hard poos the spasm ans ripping that was once there is almost gone. I think it's ok to take colace for the rest of your life, as well as metamucil and prob MOM but i think the MOM is the one that is more questionable. Just try to find what works for you and don't stress too much about taking a few extra things for a while as long as you are pain free. I've been basically pain free since my surgery and sometimes I wanna just say to hell with it all i'm cured! But I know I need to maintain a healthy fiber billed lifetsly, drink lots of water, exercise, and take daily supplements until this is truly a thing of the past.
