Seton wound is bleeding

Postby Sorebutt26 » 13 Mar 2017, 03:09

8 weeks ago I had a seton fitted.
I've had my ups and downs since.

I no longer have the wound packed as the skin on the inside is nearly at the surface now, although I do have a slight bit of over granulation.

The last week to 10 days it's been bleeding rather a lot. I hadn't really had hardly any bleeding up until this point. So I got antibiotics from the doctor thinking it may be an infection as I was a bit more painful too (I was given flucloxacillin). I'd also been getting pain in my coccyx.

I've finished the antibiotics and it's no different really. Still uncomfortable and still bleeding.

It's bright red blood and not as much gunk really.

I then thought maybe I have a fissure that's doing it, however on checking, the blood is definitely coming from the wound and not my an us.

Has anyone else had this?

Well you know I said not much gunk.... ignore that!
Today I've had so much gunk, the most I've had since I had the op and my whole butt cheek is aching.

Is this normal? Does it go through stages when draining where some days you get a lot and it might be uncomfortable?

Please tell me there's not another abscess or fistula forming :(

Is there anyone that can reassure me? XxX

:huggies: :huggies: I think you need to speak with your surgeon. It could be just from the surgery, but I would rather be sure. Do not ignore it.

Thanks for replying. The nurse done a swab test on Wednesday, I should get results tomorrow. Once results are back in, if it's not an infection, I'll definitely call my surgeon to see what he thinks.

It just seems odd that I'm back in pain again. I'm wondering if the end of the seton is scratching the wound and causing it to bleed. Maybe it's irritating it.

I have a draining seton.

Well they think it was potentially another abscess I had inside, which is white you was in so much pain.

Swabs came back clear!

But had an urgent MRI... I'm bloody riddled with fistula's :( I thought I only had one, turns out I have a horseshoe fistula and upon reading the MRI results I have lots. They are wrapped around the anal canal !!!

I've been referred to someone else :( this is going to be awful.
