Proctologist is an arse doctor, basically. My spasms got so bad they were pretty much constant after BM in the end. Don't let it get worse.

Hey if it was free I would probably of done it by now I'm going to book an appointment with my gp an ask him if I can some how get it done by a specialist for free its free for a general surgeon but I'm to scared to let that happen if I do it I want a professional in that area. I guess I need to accept that after more then 3 years of this coming back its not going to go away for ever by its self. Mypoorbutt did you have lis? I'm scared an keep thinking is this bad enough for me to get surgery for an on the good days I think I can do this. I have sharp pain an spasms for half a day can't sit an sometimes standing an laying down hurt the skin tag get super horrendous an painful is that how your guys pains had once been? Does anyone have pain for ever after the surgery? Or is it most likely that you can't control some wind here an there? I'm scared that I'll get it done then live in pain for ever no good days?

Hi MM, yes I had Botox and then 6 months ago I had LIS. I was turned down by two CRS's who said that due to my crohns and IBS that I would probably suffer some incontinence and that my spasms would stay.
I found a lovely CRS who agreed to operate on me and I had LIS. I have not had even one slight incident of incontinence not even gas or even when I'm having a flare of purely liquid BMs I do still have spasms after multiple BMs but when I just have one BM I am pain free.
I was a complicated case and even I'm pain free on most days and my spasms used to last a good 8 hours a day.
If you don't want surgery give Botox a go it gave me 3 months of absolutely no spasms even after multiple BMs and it's not permanent if that's what worries you.
LIS is a very minor surgery with hardly any risk of complications for most people. 15 years ago LIS was the go to treatment for a fissure and it's still the best option.
If your in pain you need some form of intervention as fissures rarely get better on their own

Mojo hope you had a good day Hun

Mypoorbutt thanx so much as usual! Sorry just seen your posts.

Suffice to say I got carried away after months of fasting, eating v little and viewing food as the enemy and yesterday I kind of pigged out on whole meal pasta with salmon and peas AND (shoot me) I had CHOCOLATE! Yes. The enemy of fissures but my fave food of which I'd been deprived for ages.

This morning's BM more ouchy and more blood. Just bit burny now. I feel a fool and won't be doing that again til I'm healed. Self inflicted or what??

Missy u should get an email alert when there's a new post.

Oh thank you mojo must be going to my junk file I'll have to check. How long has it been since you lis now? Mypoorbutt im worried about having lis an for some reason being in non stop pain for ever I keep thinking of that expression (better with the devil you know then the devil you don't) I have general anxiety which is probably why I get fissures all together but this anxiety is holding me back an making me feel scared of getting lis I just want my life back I'm sick of thinking about food an softeners an bms an water an fiber but will I still need to constantly think about these things with the lis?

Glad you had a good day Mojo it amazing your out and about must be such a relief to get on with life without much pain.
Damn that tempting food maybe you can have it now just in tiny amounts to start with lol. I'm sure once your fully healed you will be able to indulge more.
But on a positive note you ate chocolate and didn't have spasms...how amazing is that

Hi MM it's been 6 months since my LIS and I'm doing really well. On days when my IBS behaves and my meds keep my crohns under control I'm back to how I was pre fissure
There is no reason for LIS to increase your pain yes any surgery is an anxious experience but only you can decide if your pain is unacceptable to you. I will never be able to return to how I ate before the fissure but that is because in all honesty I shouldn't have eaten that way at all. I can never have dairy or fruit again as I'm lactose and fructose intolerant and these can easily make me have 30+ BMs in a day. Most people return to normal eating maybe just making sure they have enough fibre and water in their diet.

Missy my anxiety went thru the roof due to the fissure/spasm hell. Surgery has already made me calmer and I've realized the impact on mental health of having a fissure. There's alot of self blame involved. The very act of eating becomes tied up with guilt and anguish anticipating the next BM.

It was more likely child birth, hormonal changes and stress of having a new born that caused the fissure in the first place then anxiety takes hold and the vicious cycle's created. Break it by having the surgery as it's honestly no big thing compared to your daily agony now.

Have u tried Rectogesic or its brand equivalent in NZ? It helped me to stop the spasms initially but healing never happened.

Mypoorbutt choccy in tiny amounts is unknown to me!! I'll just carry on avoiding it til I've healed completely. There's a hell of a loada swelling down there and I bleed every time I have a BM. Surgeon said that's ok..if the fissure's been cauterised it's basically sealed up so could never be torn open again or...could it? Will steer clear of choc that's for sure!!

Thanks mojo how is your pain nowadays? Chocolate is my favorite thing of all time I still eat it now but not as much as I'd like too. Mypoorbutt when would someone be fully healed after surgery? Will I ever be able to eat an drink anything again but adding in good stuff an water?
