Hello people, I would first of all like to thank everyone here who helped me through the 1.5 years of agony that I went through. Reading the posts here really gave me hope. I had stopped coming here after I had my successful surgery two months ago like many people but I felt I was sort of indebted to share my experience. Which has been amazing!

So, if you have had a fissure for a while and all conservative treatments like sitz baths, diet, rectogesic, etc. have not helped then PLEASE do not delay the surgery. It is one hundred percent worth it! In my case, I suffered for 1.5 years after developing a fissure in about 2 weeks of constipation till it finally tore and gave me agonizing pain. First thought it was haemorroids and used an ointment for that which made it worse. Took me about three weeks to realize that it was actually a fissure when I visited a general physician. Started all the conservative measures but it kept coming back after a few weeks of relief. Finally got the surgery done by a very experienced colorectal surgeon here in Bombay, India.

I had a huge fear of incontinence which was the only thing that kept me off surgery. There was none of it! If you are not over 70 and haven't delivered 10 babies there will not be any incontinence.

Mine was an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia called the Closed Lateral Internal Partial Sphincterotomy (CLIPS). I didn't feel a thing. The stinging pain went right after the op when I had my first BM the next morning. The pain from the incision felt like a sore muscle which was very bearable. High fiber diet, stool softeners and non-spicy bland diet for 3 weeks and some antibiotics and pain killers to help me heal quickly.

Trust me, time flies. The two months passed in a jiffy and I was at work two days after surgery only because it was the weekend after it :) Bottom line, do not be afraid of surgery, it is a simple surgery and very common. You will get your life back. Cheers!

Glad to hear of your recovery and healing. I had the same surgery 10 days ago after 1.5 years of torture and while the the agony has diminished, I still have that muscle pain you described from the incision site along with some clear/yellow discharge. When do you reckon this will stop?

Hi VictorianKnight, congrats on the surgery. The worst is over for you! This pain you described must be very different from the stinging fissure pain. And this shall go away completely in about 6 to 8 weeks maximum. It will keep reducing every week. Cheers!

Just curious, did your fissure evolve to a chronic one during the 1.5 years? As in a deep fissure with a skin tag or was it a superficial one?

I was shocked to know after the surgery that my fissure is superficial in appearance and small. Because of the exruciating and disabling pain I have been experiencing for the past 1.5 years, I thought my fissure is a deep one! Mind blowing how something so small and superficial can cause unbelievable pain!

Hi simplebutt how are you feeling now? i am 7 weeks post op and still in pain...any setbacks? like some days its good sometimes its worse. Today was alot of pain and i dont even know why. I have lots of itching tho since 2 weeks.

Simplebutt did they remove your scar tissue/fissure and skin tag if you had one?

Hi VictorianKnight, I went to the specialist doc after about a month and he told me that my fissure was chronic. I believe that it became chronic in that one month because I didn't know the underlying problem and even applied piles cream to it. And yes, mine was also small but I had abscess as well, so it did give me a lot of pain too.

AJStyles, I did have a few setbacks but no major ones. I suggest that if you feel too much pain then please visit your surgeon and have it looked it. It can take up to 6 months for the fissure to fully heal and I still get some itching every now and then. But I know that the worst is over for me.

missymoo, my surgeon didn't mention removing any scar tissue. Just drained abscess and cut the sphincter muscle. That relaxed the anus and did the trick!

Simplybutt how will the scar tissue resolve its self I've read everywhere that the scar has to be removed or it will always be a weak spot are you sure they didn't remove it? Thanks

Maybe the surgeon did remove it then. He never mentioned it neither did I ask.
