I guess I'm out of remission

Postby hurtinend » 03 Jun 2017, 19:46

After some time with minor symptoms, the evil is back. I have extreme spasm and burning after movements. Driving me down, I'm so depressed over this.

This time I'm also getting bladder pain as well, causing urinary difficulty.

I have an appointment with a new CRS this Thursday. I pray that he sees something down there and can help. I'm at the end of my rope.

I have had the same sort of trouble recently - after a fairly long spell of minor pain and discomfort, some really rough nights (and days) of pain and spasms.

Am trying to ride it out without immediate intervention, just relying on GTN and pregabalin. Don't know if that will work or not, but am giving it a try. I find that when I do go and see a consultant, after the inevitable lengthy wait they don't really have anything new to suggest - except Botox, which I'm still wary of.

Yes, it is so depressing.

I hope your appointment with the new CRS gives you some relief.

did your doctor prescribe pregabalin? My family doctor prescribed me gabapentin but I stopped taking it due to the side effects. I believe gabapentin is a similar drug to pregabalin.

Yes, my GP prescribed 2x50mg pregabalin daily - it's been just about the only thing that was effective for the pain. I don't notice too many side effects from it, but have been taking it for a couple of years now, so have probably developed a certain tolerance to it.

Gabapentin is similar to pregabalin, it's also an anti-convulsant.

No one seems to be sure exactly how pregabalin works - something to do with nerve paths, but what do I know.

thank you

Maybe I should try the gabapentin again, possibly the side effects will lessen once my body gets used to it. I couldn't function on it, turned me into a zombie.

Pregabalin doesn't have that effect on me unless I take a very high dose of it. I've never tried gabapentin, though.

Am currently struggling with pain again - went for a swim in the chlorinated pool, used a barrier cream, but still have the negative after-effects. Pregabalin not being much help at the present time.
