Re: about colonoscopy

Nope, no enema. Just the Golightly. I also had to do a liquid diet 24 hours prior. I ate tons of green jello - I could not have orange or red dye.
An enema would be uncomfortable if you have pain down there. It seems that the laxatives would be enough!
I had a really bad expirience with my colonoscopy. The procedure itself was not bad, but a month ago the endoscopy clinic admitted to reusing syringes to save money. There have been about 100 HIV/Hepatitis positive blood tests because of this. I mentioned this in some previous posts. I was stressed out for a long time until my blood test came back negative. I still am worried a little because I have to retest in 6 months, but I have faith I am ok.

That's right! I remember reading your posts and it was on the news here in Missouri. I'm so glad your blood test was okay and I'll be praying it stays that way.
I just got home from grocery shopping and bought popsicles, gatorade, apple juice, and the lovely phospho soda and Dulcolax.
I think I will eat lightly tomorrow and Saturday. Then, Sunday just liquids. I called and found out I can definitely keep taking my Nexium and diazepam which is good. Juices don't really agree with me, so I'm hoping the Nexium helps with that. And I can't sleep without the diazepam, it helps keep my leg from shaking in my sleep. It's all so much fun! :-P

I had to do the phosphosoda prep too. It is the worst things I've ever had to drink, and I am not afraid to experiment.
1. phosposoda
2. hawthorne berry juice
3. other bowel prep stuff.
Turst me, these are way above things like spoiled milk or orange juice on the list of nasty.
I would suggest doing the phosphosoda like a shot and then following up immediately with something really strongly flavored like Sprite or apple cider vinegar to get the taste out of your mouth. Then drink the 8-12 oz of water. In about 1-2 hours, you'll want to be really close to a restroom.

Thanks, BG. Yuck! Not looking forward to it, but I keep remembering my Mom being really sick with cancer and having to drink that stuff for a test. It was horrible, but she did it. It was so sad to see her so ill and having to do it. I keep remembering her and all the things she went through and figure I can do anything if she could.
Oh geesh, now I miss my Mom. :-(

Hi, itsapain. I just read your post about the bleeding, too. Sorry you're having that. I'm sure you're anxious about the test. That can definitely cause the BMs to be firmer and cause bleeding.
I cut back on my fiber the past couple of days because I read that fiber supplements and too much fiber before a colonoscopy can mess with the results. So, I've been a little worried things would back up and I would start bleeding again. So far, so good though. It did take me awhile to actually go this morning and I was getting nervous. But, finally eating some cereal did the trick. I usually go about 15 minutes into waking up, this time it took a couple of hours. :-P
Thanks for the tip about chilling it really well. I thought I would try that because I remember doing that with the Golytely and it helped. I hope by Wednesday we'll both be so happy to have the tests over with and our results come back fine. I am hoping, though, the doctor comes up with something to explain my bleeding. Even if it's a chapped butt! My husband keeps teasing that he's going to buy me chapstick for my butt! He's silly!

I've always used the fleet before anything like that. It tastes absolutely horrible but does the trick .
The idea is to be cleaned out so well that they can see everything really well with the camera .
Usually they schedule mornings for colonoscopy. But maybe they're double booking to make even more money right ?
That proceedure is a total money maker for hospitals .
