Can anyone tell me without scaring me Image !!!
Is it quite common for a fistula to arise during the healing process of a fissure ?

Tabby , do you have discharge ? Are you sure it's a fistula ?
Probably you should get it checked out by a doctor.
Hope that's not the case - but that's actually better than having an abcess then a fistula. ........
If the discharge continues then it's probably a fistula.

Fistulas/abscesses are fairly common. I'm not sure what the %% are but I think they are higher than most CRS say. What I'd suggest is keeping really close track of the healing. If there is any unusual or increased pain or stinging, then have it checked out immediately.

Tabby,
I thought mine was healed then I got an abcess, then a fistula, but it doesn't always happen, so dont panic, but if you do get symptoms like feeling like you have flu, and bad pain, then get to the doctor quickly and get it checked out.

No No Sorry no panic ....
I dont have any symptoms of a fistula or any discharge! PLEASE NO !
I was just wondering if the chances are greater with a healing fissure !
So one would know something is wrong - increased pain to have either a fistula/abcess ?
Buttgirl - what did you mean by stinging, would you have pain too ?
Intresting a few members have got to the healing stage then had fistula/abcess  Image
Thanks all

Basically, I meant watch out for pain that is not related to a bm. If your pain suddenly worsens and you didn't just poo or if the area suddenly starts stinging not related to a bm or if your cycle of poo and pain changes for the worse or if you get a fever, go get checked out. My infection in Dec began as a skin tag that stayed painful. The pain would increase during the night. I probed around a bit and found a pocket of blood. I went straight to the dr and demanded a prescription for antibiotics. I was absolutely sure it was an infection after the antibiotics took away the pain and blood. It took a couple moths for the area to heal enough for stuff not to get trapped and the infection not begin again.
Prob usually happen when a fissure heals too quickly on the outside and does not heal on the inside. Stuff gets trapped and bacteria grow and have no way to slough off.

Tabby ,
Buttgirl is correct, it starts with a fissure that attempts to heal.
I was on vacation in Mexico and continued to ride a bicycle daily for transportation - My stupid mistake ..........
You'll know something is really wrong if you ever get an abscess. When I had one I felt a small lump just outside the anal openeing and it was very very painful . The next morning I had a bad fever and I was in excrutiating pain .
I had to go to emergency that morning and have it drained without sedation - Unbelievably painful !! Then it turned into a fistula. Drained constantly for a month - pretty messy.
Surgery is the only way to correct a fistula .
The moral of this story - if you have a fissure take care of it all the way !!

Oh, John, I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through that experience too : (. Some of us just can't have a brake, I guess Image !?!
My skin tag is bothering me for the past 5 days and I am all psyched up that it might got infected or something . I will try home remedies - if they don't help I will have to go to CRS which is just a nightmare in itself :pale: !
All the best !

Fiss, if your fissure is healed then I wouldn't worry about it. My infection was right at the place where the fissure meets the skin tag. It was like the fissure burrowed into the midle of the tag and set up a cozy spot for poo to hang around and get stuck in.
I have heard the skin tags are pretty sensitive on their own since they are scar tissue and do stick out to get rubbed against the cheeks and all. I'd be wary of having mine removed too.
It never hurts to get checked out though. well, not much anyway...
