Pregnant with fissure

Postby Hopeful123 » 21 Feb 2018, 11:07

Hi
I am new to the forum but not new to fissures. I am based in the UK and was taking GTN for a chronic fissure. After a couple of months it seemed to be working and I spoke to my gastroenterologist about extending my family. He thought there was no reason to delay trying. However I got pregnant more quickly than expected and had to come off thenointment before I was fully healed. To my horror I have been told by doctors there is nothing at all I can take. It has worsened since I have come off the ointment and I now have a dull ache all day and occasional spasms, although BMs do not hurt - the ache comes later. I can live with this but am terrified it will escalate to the razor blade pain I experienced after the birth of my first child 4 years ago. Has anyone been in a similar situation and have any tips of how I might help myself safely for the baby. I am only 7 weeks gone so have a long way to go. Thank you!

Hi H,

Can you take stool softeners or anything just to ward off the pregnancy constipation? As that may make it worse! Hopefully if you can control that it will stay bearable as is!

Also can I ask how long it took for you to heal in the first place? I got a fissure after the birth of my daughter, she’s now 8 months and I reopened it today! Also looking for some hope that it might heal!

I am also in the UK!

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. I don't have constipation, the opposite in fact so I am working on having one BM a day as I was having 2 or 3 which I think delayed healing.
After the birth I was given some sort of suppository that did the trick. However my gastroenterologist didn't think these were much good and prescribed me the GTN, or recrogesic this time around. I'd go to the doctor and see what he or she can give you as soon as possible. Ive found they do heal, don't worry - hard I know but I think it makes them worse. Good luck ! X

Hopeful123, have you talked to your doctor about diltiazem? There are at least two of us pregnant mamas on the site right now that were okayed to take diltiazem by their doctors.

Hi
I hadn't, but I will when I see the specialist. Thanks so much for pointing this out. Does it help? I've been using sudocrem which seems to have offered a bit of relief.
Thanks!!!

Hopeful, I think it helps a lot of people. I’m not sure it’s been helping me to be honest, but it’s something you could try!

Hi! I am breastfeeding and take a suppository of coconut oil and CBD oil, legal here in the States.
It’s helpes tremendously along side Advil, it prevents my spasms and I’m crossing fingers this pain that comes on 1/2 hr after BM goes away ASAP. I’m so done with it.

Hi
Thanks ESun and PreggoAF, I really hope you find permanent relief. Very sadly I have had a miscarriage so I suppose I will go back on the GTN, if it doesn't heal I will look into the diltaziam. ESun, does the suppository have a brand name? Did you try that h fissure ointment at all? It kept coming up in Google searches but wasn't sure if it was reputable.
I really want this to heal so we can try again.
Good luck xxx
