Fissure and sentinel pile removal

Postby Katiekatie116 » 10 Apr 2018, 16:42

Hello I’m new here not sure if I’m using this right! I had a baby 3 months ago and had been suffering with a fissure for 2 months until I couldn’t take the constant pain anymore.
I called the specialist yesterday and she got me in right away, maybe had to do with me bawling on the phone with her. I went in and had my fissure removed and 2 sentinel piles.
I have yet to have a bowl movement today. I took 2 stool softeners and I’ve stopped my pain medication in case it was preventing a bm. Is this normal? Should I be concerned I will have a dry stool? I’ve eaten only fruit and vegatables since. I’m also pretty terrified of having a bm so maybe mentally I’m not allowing myself to.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What do you mean fissure removed. It technically can't be removed because it is a cut. What procedure exactly did you have done. Don't worry about your first BM, but don't eat too little because you need volume to be able to get the urge. Take psyllium husk powder, it helps a lot to make the stool soft yet formed.

It all happened so fast. I literally went in, was examined and was told I had a severe anal fissure with 2 sentinel piles and he was taking care of them in that moment I didn’t even have time to think about it. I’m glad it happened that way because I’m a worrier. Anyway the procedure lasted all of 5 minutes and I was under local anesthesia.

What type of pain should I expect for my first bm? Just like before or should it be better?

Without knowing what procedures he did I can't tell you. If I were you I would call him and get the official names of the procedures and ask him about further care. He should have provided all tjat info to you.

Yes, my post op instructions were to take colace if no BM. You should have signed a consent if he did a surgery where things are explained. Which country do you live in.

The us.
I did sign a waiver I have it right here it says “you have undergone a minor surgical procedure in our office utilizing local anesthesia”

Doesn’t specify what. I do know my sentinel piles are gone and he took care of the fissure.

Ok, then it was a surgery, but you have to know what exactly because there are several for fissures and the recovery for each is different. If you had LIS then you will have pain from the incision side for a few weeks, there will be bleeding from the incision for a few days and there will be a discharge. But the fissure pain should be gone pretty soon. You should ask him if insicion was done on which side, so you will know tjat this localized pain is indeed from the incision.

Hello! I feel as though the pain during and after bms have improved GREATLY but now through the day there is sort of an ache in that area. Is that normal? It feels sore and I’m just worried I have an infection somehow even though I’ve been cleaning it very well and have been doing sitz baths. Or maybe it’s very normal to be sore. Any words of wisdom would be well appreciated. Thank you!
