I just wanted to follow up for anyone who reads this in the future. I had an appointment recently and my doctor says he cannot see the fissure anymore! I am technically healed, although I still have irritation occasionally, which he says might just be from harder bowel movements. As of now I'm not in any pain or bothered on a daily basis at all, but I plan on staying on stool softeners indefinitely.
