I do remember that cotton balls seemed to help me with the itching, but I am trying to forget about the experience. I don't plan to use the Diltiazen ointment for more than 8 weeks. That is my plan right now anyway. Hope my Metamucil-like powder works well again today.
One of my friends is going to have a "gamma knife" used on her benign brain tumor this coming week, so situations like those do seem to put our probs more into perspective.

I don't know - I know many people that had tumors removed and lived happily ever after and people with chronic back pain who just want to die ... so yeah, my "thought of the day" LOL
Tabby - I hope you will find some relief soon - it must be very annoying - did you try some Aloe or Chamomile ? I think the "break" from the creams could be a worth a try - if u need some lubrication still, try plain Vaseline - something without any active ingredients at all.

Why did i use so much creams

Don't beat yourself up, Tabby! We all need to be our own best friends!! One thing I tried this morning on my applicator--it has holes on the sides from which the cream comes out--anyway for the first time I put some cream on the END in a great amount, which I had never done previously. Made insertion much easier, and I wish I had thought of that b/4. We all learn as we go along-that is life!

Dear Tubby , you are more than welcome Since all of those creams (Nitro, Nifedipamine and I suppose other "compounds") have vaseline as a base - I see no reason why pure vaseline would be any different . Vaseline is completely "inert" which means that it is not absorbed by skin or mucous membranes. Regarding hygiene, same way - if you used any other cream inside it is the same thing. You will poop it out anyway LOL as soon as you go to the bathroom : ) ! I am sorry that they changed Preparation -H formula, originally it was mostly fish oil and was great as natural lubricant (sigh). Maybe we should start our own business and start manufacturing fissure friendly suppositories !!!!??? Small size, slippery and completely mild and with natural oils and herbs !!!!
BTW: I discovered that Aloe gel is great lubricant for insertion of suppositories ! I also put mixture of aloe, vit. E, vit.A, and baby A+D cream on a tip of my suppository and it glides in smoothly and also brings "in" those extra vitamins !

PS: You used so much creams because you tried to heal the fissure :truebud: dear buddy and it is not a short or small task XOXO I used Nitro 0.4 (!!!!) AND Nifedapine in combo LOL - so don't be angry at yourself - you intentions were the best and everybody reacts differently to meds!

why it is itching: when you are injured, you have histamines and leukotrienes that rush to the surface of your skin to repair it, histamine causes itching, and as long as your skin has a problem, even a scab (which is normal and healthy) the histamine will stay underneath the scab in the skin just incase any other infection or irritants try to enter the wound, so that it can attack it (actually macrophages do this, but this is just the general idea) the histamine makes your skin tingle because it is helping it heal because it has proteins in it from your blood...so it is good to be itching if you have a wound

Yes and no. Itching is actually very close to pain in it's origin and how it is interpreted in the brain. Itching can be final phase of healing but also can signal bingeing of many disorders.
In this particular case, itching is caused most likely by usage of vasodilatation creams. Itching by no means is a good sine in all circumstances and in severe cases can be debilitating (ask any Seborrhea sufferer).

ha ha ha- sorry Tabby - sometimes I am amazed that I can compose a sentence at all - my brain is so much connected with my butt lately - I even "slur" when I speak - who knows, maybe fissure is super early symptom of dementia in my case :rolleyes:
