My last two CRS visits (5 months ago and last week) the doc has performed an anoscopy and reports that my fissure has healed. He can see no sign of it, whereas in previous visits he reported that he saw the fissure, which was "not that big or scary," to use his words. This is great news, in theory. The problem is that I still get pain after every BM and when sitting on hard surfaces for more than a few minutes. Sometimes it lasts all day. It is NOT as bad as when I "officially" had a fissure, but it's still bringing a lot of discomfort.
The doc's theory is that I have inflamed internal hemorrhoids that are now causing me this pain. I was very suspicious of this diagnosis because I thought, what are the odds that I'd get a second condition in exactly the same place that causes almost identical symptoms, and at exactly the same time as my fissure was healing?
It seemed far-fetched, but the doc didn't think so. Anyway, I did notice a few differences in the KIND of pain I am experiencing. The current pain is more of a burning sensation after BMs and sometimes a low-grade pain I feel all day. Very constant and consistent. The fissure, by contrast, gave me stabbing pains and very noticeable spasms where the anus would tense up like a vice after BMs and sitting wrong. I also noticed about 6-8 months ago that whereas in the past the heating pad was my best friend for the fissure, it now actually caused more pain. No more heating pads. The seat cooler in my car is now my best friend! So there are some differences in the pain, even though it feels about 80% the same. I am considering the possibility that the CRS is right that although the pain I am experiencing is very similar to the fissure pain, it's not actually fissure pain. But from what I can tell online, it doesn't really sound like internal hemorrhoid pain either. I don't feel any slipping or protrusion down there. And no creams, etc., have worked at all. I am thinking about getting the banding procedure done in a few months if this doesn't go away.
Anyway, does this sound familiar to anyone who's had both AF and hemorrhoids? Any input is greatly appreciated!!
