coating your fissure when you have diarrhea

Postby gahgah604 » 07 Feb 2009, 18:26

what is the best? vaseline? A&D? Zinc Oxide? 3M cream?
and it says on the box external use for most of these creams, do you actually put on these barrier creams like you would nitro or nifedipine? (insert the finger inside and try to coat the actual fissure?)
I am actually feeling better about diarrhea now, I thought to myself... when I had that illness that caused severe diarrhea that gave me this stupid fissure I did not do anything (no wet wipes, no barrier creams, no sitz bath's) so no wonder I got a fissure and my butt was raw.
At least now I can be prepared for Diarrhea, and hope it does not do any serious damage down there.
thanks guys

I would imagine that vaseline would probably be the best, but any of those creams would be fine for a barrier. Personally, I would just apply it on the outside, that should protect it enough.
Glad to hear that you are calmer in your fear of D.!

I agree with you, you are more prepared and not least you know that you have to take baths/shower to clean up afterwards not to become sore...

I don't think you can go wrong with vaseline.

but how would applying vaseline on the outside put a barrier on my fissure ? wouldn't I have to put the cream on internally so it covers the fissure ?

gahgah-
My nitro ointment is A&D based and I put that in internally - I hope that answers your question.
I have diarrhea right now. I must have gone to the bathroom 10 times yesterday - no kidding! Thankfully, my fissure is doing ok.
