Day 6 post-LIS report

Postby sidra1968 » 10 Aug 2009, 12:41

Hey everyone. Just a quick update...
I am still feeling good. Yesterday was my first minor setback, I guess. I had my morning BM and it burned a bit afterwards. Got in the tub, took some ibuprofen and was fine the rest of the day. I was worried, but from reading these posts, I guess it's normal. I do think it's at the incision site at least.
Today it didn't really happen, maybe a tad. Still, this is nothing NEAR as bad as before the surgery. I'm already working long days (I'm a nanny, so it's just doing "normal" stuff), not hard physical labor nor simply just sitting either. I notice I can go a few hours without thinking about it at all, which to me is a great sign...before surgery my AF was all-consuming of my thoughts.
Hope you all are feeling ok today!
So in a nutshell, so far, so great...very glad I did this as of the present time!!!!!!!!!

Glad you are having a great day, today, Nan!!!
Was your BM mushy, loose or runny yesterday? I know that type always made me burn...glad it didn't last long!
Maybe today is the start of something new and wunnerful, life without AF! Lets hope so!

Nice, glad to hear things are still going well!
I agree with Kim, I also get some burning after watery and frequent stools. They don't hurt as much as hard BMs on their way out, but they seem to irritate the fissure and anal area in general more afterwards. Sounds like it's just a temporary thing though, thanks for the update!

Well, I'm still taking Miralax, but had lessened the dose the day before - so maybe it was less loose? It was still mushy though...I fear I may have to have mushy ones the rest of my life to avoid another AF. That's alright with me if that's what it takes!!!!!!

I'm totally with you there. Once I figure out what it takes to get rid of this fissure, I don't care what it is, I'm doing it for the rest of my life!
Were you already taking the Miralax prior to LIS, or is that something you only started after surgery? The Miralax dosing is definitely tricky. I've been using a full dose myself for the last few days, and some days it's great, but other days (like today) it makes me go the bathroom way too many times, with watery stools every time, which is no good. I've been thinking about reducing the daily dose a bit but am scared to.

N Guy,
I just started with it AFTER the surgery. I do like it, as it has been easy on my stomach (considering the IBS). I've been taking 1 dose in the morning and then another one at night...and actually it hasn't made it as runny as I thought it would. For whatever reason, the runny stuff doesn't hurt me, as I noticed on the colon-prep day before the surgery ...don't know why that is?! It hasn't made me go as much as I thought it would either - again, don't know why?!
Obviously, this is all gonna be a bunch of trial and error before it's all over...
