Hey, yup, I think at this point I'm not going to try to beat the babies to the punch anymore... I'm pretty sure I'll still be "fissured" when they arrive. I'll just have to manage.
My wife had her gallbladder removed years ago, was anemic when she was a kid, badly burned her upper thigh in a kitchen accident years ago, and has been hit by a car (I backed a car into her while I was parallel parking when we first started dating -- no joke!) so medical procedures and surgery are kind of old hat to her. I think I'm actually more scared about the C-section than she is. She's pretty much like oh yeah it's just a minor bikini line surgery, no big deal, meanwhile I'm thinking I'm about to poop my pants here just thinking about it :)

Oh Sidra that sucks ! Fingers crossed the A/Bs will do the trick and you can get back to healing ! Image
Can you take some probiotics while on the antibiotics??
I am the same NG, A/Bs were not so friendly for my fissure, Maybe use a barrier cream (Vaseline) to help protect the area :)

Thanks for the thoughts, Tabby.
So far, so good on all fronts...infection seems to be going away and no ill effects from the a/b yet...(majorly knocking on wood)
NG, how are you feeling?

Hey Sidra,
Glad things look under control on your side. As long as you finish your antibiotics to knock all the little buggers out I think you'll be good to go.
I'm okay at the moment, after switching to mainly soup (I started with just veggies but have recently added in fish, crab meat, tofu, and potatoes) and taking Miralax everyday with nifedipine and Valium, I've actually been having relatively uneventful BMs. They come with some pain and discomfort (usually when the sphincter stretches upon the stool's first emergence) but after that it's mostly okay and perfectly bearable. I can drive myself around normally at this point. I'm slightly optimistic about the whole thing, and have actually pushed back my next CRS appointment to give me a bit more time to assess things, but am tempering my expectations so I don't have a huge letdown.
Thanks for asking! Are you still working and going about your business while on Flagyl? Any weird funky side effects from it at all? Just curious, I know lots of people complain about neuropathy on it.

Oh I never talked it much on this forum, it's something I was having problems with earlier in the year. Now I don't notice it as much (still do on occasion though), I'm not sure if that's because the fissure is drawing all of my perceptions away from other problems, or the nerve inflammation has died down.
Anyhow I had peripheral neuropathy, it manifests differently for different people but can best be described as strange feelings in one's extremities (can affect other parts too but the extremities are most common). In my case, it was tingling, prickly, and sometimes itching sensations in my legs, feet, arms, hands, and neck, with no rash or apparent external cause. When I stood I also felt the sensation of wind or bugs crawling up my legs. The feelings would come and go for me, but consistently appeared each day. It was definitely nerve related because I could sometimes feel shooting sensations move from one part of the body to another. I saw a neurologist, had all manner of tests and a few CT scans and MRIs done, and the only problem they found was that I had the neck of a 60-year old :) Basically my cervical spine disks are degenerating much faster than they should, have narrowed a bit so my nerves don't have as much room to move around in there, and I have some minor neck arthritis and disk retrolithis (means slightly out of position as far as I understand it). All normal stuff, just not for my age group. Anyway they concluded that wasn't causing the neuropathy, and it was more likely temporary nerve (myelin sheath) inflammation caused by the long antibiotic regime I was on.
If you haven't felt anything like that, don't let me freak you out, it probably means you're not one of the folks who is suspect to it as a side effect. Antibiotics generally kick my ass harder than most folks, so my having trouble with it isn't too surprising. Flagyl is good (strong) stuff, those bacteria in your bum are probably running for cover as we speak!
