I don't get this stupid thing...

Postby edward_adams » 28 Jul 2007, 12:38

I felt like I was making improvement last week, then today I had 2 BMs within an hour and my butt has been throbbing for the last four hours.
I don't get it. You do everything right and things still go wrong.
I've never been so frustrated in my whole life. Image

That is the nature of the beast I am afraid. But all you can do it do your part and if you have a rough day you know that you did everything you could on your end. It is very tough to have a setback-I truly understand. Especially when you have made improvement but you need to focus on how far you have come. It is very much a two steps forward and one step back kind of process.
And feel free to rant here. We all do it!

It's so hard to stay positive and relaxed, especially since summer is flying by.
Should be out playing with my daughter, but instead lying on the couch in self pitty.
Thanks for the support and a place to vent.
I know I've read in several threads that there will be days of setbacks and read some of you finally getting through it.
I can't wait for this to end.

Yeah, it is a bummer not getting to do the things with your kids you want to. I understand-I have two.
Maybe you can take 4 (200 mg) advil and escape the pain enough to go outside and do something though.

Edward, Maybe the pain will ease off and there will still be quality time left for your daughter!
That is the thing about AF, there can be no pattern or reason for flare-ups...sometimes regardless of the effort you expend, and the things you think you are doing right, it will fool you. It is always important not to get your hopes up after only 1, 2 or even 5 days of "remission." I really think it would take two weeks of no pain to begin to really feel you are making progress.

Thank you.
My frustration and anger have come down a bit and it is helping.
That is good advise, I must remember that this will take a while and I can't rush this.
I should be able to go out for a walk with the girl after dinner.
I will try the advil.

Man, so today is worse than yesterday, it feels like it's worse than when I started
When you guys were healing, did this happen to you?
I know there will be setbacks, but do they feel worse?
I've been on nitro on 2 weeks, and I still hurt during the BM (mostly when it starts), blood has come back and the spasms are worse after they were getting manageble.

Yes we did. It was par for the course I am afraid. I had days when I felt decent and then would feel worse than ever. Healing from a fissure is not a linear progression. It is so up and down and unpredictable. Really you haven't been on the nitro all that long. It took me 4 months of using the cream to heal so I think you are actually doing pretty well.
My daughter just peered over my shoulder and said your daughter was so cute!

Do you jump into a hot bath right after a painful BM like that? That can help a lot! It's what I had to do when my pain was at it's worst.
No, you don't sound like you're healing, at least not this weekend. The blood will always be a problem, on and off, as long as you have the fissure, so don't sweat it too much. The hot baths can really help with the spasms. Are you straining prior to the BM?
