I'm with NG, recovery in one day after surgery is ludicrous, I was told something similar and here I am 4 months out and still not 100% out of the woods so to speak, on the other hand you might be one of the lucky "text book" next day healers... Here's to hoping!

Thanks everyone for your input. The surgery is still scheduled for tomorrow, but I am not sure if I want to go through with it. I wish I was in more pain, it would make the decision easier!
For the last 3 days I've had a good amount of bleeding with my daily BM but minimal pain--a little pinch, but so mild that I'm surprised to see blood. Could it be that I'm getting better? Maybe I should wait to do the surgery? I just don't know what to do...

I doubt very seriously your fissures healing when you are still seeing blood.
The surgery is really nothing in my opinion. I think you'll be thanking God you got it. Wait and see:)
You'll be sore but no clenching, tight, shards of glass again!
Count weeks, not days and you should see huge improvements. If I had just had Lis, I think I would have been good to go in two weeks. You'll be fine. Just stay positive, and roll with the flow. Your butt will be swollen and bruised with all kinds of weirdness for a while but it's nothing unbearable.

Mr. Fissure,
NG developed an abcess and Steve had a fissurectomy w/ his LIS, I had a skin tag removed and my fissure cauterized with my LIS. If you are just having LIS then you may heal quicker than any of us did....Although I have to say my recovery went well, nothing crazy or worse than my fissure before surgery. We're all different....Take care:)

Thought I would chime in again. I agree if you are bleeding the fissure is still there. Mine was the same way. Got it healed partially then it would bleed off and on. But i never had the glass shards pain like when I first tore it.
I know it is hard to take the plunge. I felt the same way. For me, the LIS was my first "real" surgery. I had an exam under anesthesia once before but nothing was cut.
I have no regrets with the surgery. And like other have said if you just have a LIS you may heal very fast. For my LIS, I was told the incision will be about 2-3mm. My CRS said they use a minimal invasive method and small scalpels that are normally used in eye surgery. So for me the LIS part was easy part. I had a bunch of other stuff done that caused most of the recovery pain.
I think you will be happy if you take the plunge. Just think you can stop letting it rule your life. That is the part I got so tired of. Can't eat this or that, what the next BM brings, soaking in the tub, etc. Maybe call the CRS again if you still have ?'s that are making you uneasy . My CRS was awesome in soothing my nerves with the whole procedure. Good luck with your decision.
Steve and Cheryl - I can sympathize - *waves* from the frozen north. We had a blizzard - 18" of snow last weekend. Then Sunday brought us below zero temps with -30 below wind chill. I still haven't completely dug out.....

Thanks for the encouragement Dawn and Paulspain. Paulspain, you're exactly right about how the AF rules your life. Even though I haven't had shards of glass pain for a long time, it's still a daily project to keep my stools calibrated just so. But I've never had any surgery either and it's scary, and so I keep coming back to the question, if it isn't preventing me from living my life, is it worth it? Is it possible that I'd eventually get better on my own?
Anyway thanks to everyone, it's very helpful to hear from people who have been there.

I went through the same debate - could I just heal it. My area has a large group of CRS's. I talked to several (4 total) about the odds of healing after so many years - they all said it would not if it hadn't already. Basically, the anal canal can start to develop stenosis from the scar tissue building up. Mine was very tight so the LIS helps loosen things to promote healing. Also, My CRS does Botox but he told me that my fissure had to much scar tissue to even consider it since it was so chronic.

Hoping to enjoy some WARMER weather in sunny Florida in Jan/Feb. Have you started your Remicaid treatments? There are so many good docs up in your area. That should be quite a good feeling for you. Did you know that Mayos has GI docs that strictly see Crohn's patients? Isn't that amazing? If my son did not have his other issues, I would take him to Rochester, but we are quite happy with his GI doc who was raised in Rochester when his dad worked at Mayos. They still have a connection to Mayos to learn all of the latest.
