Insomnia

Postby Soreguy » 10 Feb 2011, 22:49

I dont know if it is from the Movicol or the Diltiazem but I have been having poorer sleep than normal, sometimes waking up after 1 hour thinking I have slept for much longer, and right now I have been up for 28 hours and I cant sleep.

I've had a mixed up sleep schedule ever since I returned from Florida and tried to "sleep off" my headache for several hours. I think there are MANY possible reasons for insomnia--stress, depression, etc. I blamed insomnia on my A/D, but I stopped taking it several months ago, so that is not currently the reason I cannot sleep. My body clock is out of wack as is my circadian rhythm. It is like I am living on European time now.

I don't know - movicol doesn't affect me that way. It does make my stomach cramp a bit, but it isn't enough to keep me awake. However, maybe some gas or spasms are waking you up from your sleep??
Hope this goes over soon. Maybe others will have some wisdom.
When I have insomnia I try to change something in my bedroom - like move the bed to another side of the room, or flip it around (so my feet are where my head was) - some sort of change seems to help break the bad sleep cycle.

Reading a book can also help one relax and get sleep again. Maybe I should try that tonight!! Movicol/Miralax never gave me insomnia or any other bad side effects except too many BM's at times (and too loose of stools). As my Mayo GI doc told me, the worst thing that Movicol/Miralax can cause is diarhea!!

I think the anxiety and stress of a fissure can cause insomnia. I had horrible sleeping patterns with my fissure.

I did eventually sleep after being up for 30 hours, it probably is stress from the AF. I havent been doing much at all this year, my life is on hold until this resolves, on the plus side the spasms are becoming less and less even in the morning before I apply Dilt.

Insomnia is horrible. I have had such trouble sleeping that now I take a very low dose of a muscle relaxant and that seems to help. I only use them at night and they have been a blessing for me. Just cannot stand being in pain AND not sleeping. Way too much.
Hope the sleep has refreshed. I am waiting for my first batch of Diltiazem to be compounded with hope and trepidation.

Savaici,
There are some threads on this board about the importance of mind/body interaction--i.e. believing that the ointment or med WILL help. Good luck. I'm sold on Diltiazem because it worked so well for me. :D

Thanks for the info, Cherylk. I am really trying to be positive about it, and will will good thoughts to that area. I try so not to stress out about things, but tend to do it naturally. Yesterday was one of those days. I ate different food than normal and also had to be in a stressful situation (made by myself, no other reason) and today suffered with great difficulty in the loo, pain, etc. One thing that has improved for me is that I don't have the sensation of heaviness in the anorectal are much these days, when my bladder hurts and all throbs. Today got that all back. Ate my usual food today (plus a scone that I am eating bit by bit...just wanted it) so hopefully tomorrow will be easier again. I loathe not being able to eat what I want. But, there it is.
