grrr why do doctors think pooping blood is no big deal??

Postby sad pooper » 19 Aug 2011, 06:43

Hi im new to the forum, After having my baby 4 months ago i developed horrible painful fissures. Apparently this is normal, so 3 doctors tells me to take useless stool softeners that do nothing and give me a prescription for hemorrhoid cream. I was this close to discovering miralax untill the pharmacist told me it was no different from the colace and not to waste my money. Sorry I just have to rant- fissures are sooo painful, yet doctors alike have no idea how to treat them and people suffer untill they get worse and worse and harder to treat. Ive inserted everything u can think of script and nonscript. Now im trying Dr wheatgrass and Movicol- but even Dr Wheatgrass' claims seem bogus, Wish me luck :( sorry about the rant

I have also been through a similar experience, also inserted everything but the kitchen sink. Im now on a cocktail of creams, painkillers, antifungul, and laxatives.
Hope your treatment goes well

Hey sadpooper! Please feel free to rant away! Many of us have gone through the same experience! Shoving all kinds of stuff up our butts and using the wrong kind of creams! Image I'm not a doctor, but I would say DO NOT use the hemorrhoid creams - those have made things much worse for many of us. They can make the tissue more prone to tearing.
I also disagree with your pharmacist - many of us here have tried colace and miralax and there is a general preference for miralax. Of course, each individual is different, but you can't know what works best for you until you try it. I've also read mixed reviews about the Wheatgrass. If you haven't already, I really think you should see a colorectal surgeon asap. That's the person who will give you the proper meds for healing a fissure, like nitro or diltiazem. Many of us wasted a lot of time with GPs and OTC or online remedies that either made things worse or were only partial and temporary fixes.
Good luck! :D

I'm going to second Hope on the Miralax. Colace didn't even compare to the results I got with the Miralax. They both are suppose to work the same by drawing water into the bowel but hands down Miralax was the winner for me personally.
I'd see a CRS and get one of the ointments Hope mentioned. Oh my word, if I had the money back I wasted on my ass for things that didn't work, I'd be able to take a mini vacation, lol.

My CRS has me on Miralax, stool softener and psyllium fiber daily. So I have been on Miralax and stool softener (docusate sodium) for over a year now. Since I have been taking both the entire time, I have no idea which is helping me the most. I have heard really good things about the Miralax vs the stool softener from many people. I would definitely try and give the Miralax a chance.
