2 weeks out of surgery, and life is good!

Postby ren0318 » 05 Sep 2011, 20:21

Wow times flies, Wednesday will be 2 weeks since my surgery. I have felt really good since about Thursday...each day over the weekend just got better and better....I've not have any pain pills for at least 5 days, no anti-spasm meds either. No laxatives, just a nice rich in fiber diet and lots of water. Been having BMs daily sometimes a couple of times a day! The worst thing that is happening now is I am itching down there like CRAZY....Especially after a BM...I'm cleaning really well, I use baby wipes, but the burn and itch still stay around for sometime after. I'm guessing that's due to the healing....I have the rest of this week to enjoy not working and taking it easy, go back to the Dr next week and I'm sure she will tell me I'm ready to go back(I know I'll be ready to go back:))
I can say that all my freaking out prior to surgery was VERY uncalled for:) Just like most of you tried to tell me. And I can now join the fissure club that says, "Have the surgery sooner than later, don't suffer for months, years, decades.....it's so not worth it...."
Having the fissure really was a blessing, you know I had a colonscopy prior to my surgery (about 3 months ago) the dr wanted to make sure I didn't have some other medical reason for the fissures...I'm only 43 yrs old, normally folks don't get colonscopy's until 50 +, When I had the scope they found 8 poylps, 3 that were per-canerous!!! THANK GOD I had the fissure, if not by the time I would have had the normal 50+ scope, I might have been dead!
I guess we should always try to find the good in the bad:)
My new favorite quote:
What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday??
Bless you all and I do hope you all had a pain free weekend,
Ren

Congratulations Ren! You hit that golden 2 week mark!! YES!
One more week to rest is great and I have no doubt you'll be able to go back to work then!! Woohoo! I just love hearing good reports and I'm sure others who are thinking about having surgery will find this very comforting. I know I would have!!
Welcome to the I wish I would have done it sooner club!!
Have you tried just rinsing after a bm? That may help. I rinsed a few times through out the day...Actually I still do!
Unbelievable, the colonoscopy probably saved your life! No doubt that is something good that came out of having the fissure!
I love your new favorite quote! I think I'll never look at life the same since my fissure and as bad as it sucked, It made me appreciate and enjoy being healthy and here with my family. All the little things that use to bug the mess out of me don't really matter anymore...
Take care! Thanks for updating :)

Ren great news! I also had a pre-cancerous polyp discovered and removed during a colonscopy and I'm 36, but to find 3 of those buggers is amazing. Amazing how these mine fields can be out there waiting for us right, but we can be steered away from them. Blessings back to you

Hey Ren,
Congrats! I'm a little over 3 weeks post-surgery and have been having the itchies very badly myself! If it wasn't for this cream called Analpram I was prescribed when I left the hospital day of surgery, I don't know what I'd do! The itching at times can get very bad! The Analpram does the trick like magic, although I'm trying to only use it when absolutely necessary, because I think the less I put on my bum, the quicker I will heal completely. Life is so much better without the fissure, it makes you appreciate things so much more. It got to a point when I had my fissure/fistula that I was just REALLY down! I'm so glad I went through the surgery, and like you, I freaked out a bit prior to the surgery as well. I mean getting operated on down there in that area is rather uncomfortable! Anyway, join me in itchy city and we'll get through it together ;-)

I seems to do the trick for me. I try not to use it too much, I only apply it when the itch is just completely unbearable. I have mine in little 1-use tubes, it says you can use it up to 3 times a day, but the stuff stays in all day long and I can't think of why I'd need to apply it more than once if I'm going to use it.

The hospital gave me some special promo coupon that made mine come to $25... I asked how much it would be without the promo and they told me $100..... I also have the kit that you're mentioning... they told me not to bother with the pills or the wipes, and to just use the tubes... yes, the instructions tell me to stick it just a little bit into my rectum, then squeeze the entire tube out.

My doc gave me Proc-sol (sp?)....I think it's a hemmy cream but helps the itch a lot. However today i have my 3 week check with the Dr, I've had some bleeding with BMs, a little pain, but nothing major, and I still have this little "bump" feeling thing down there....I hope that is nothing bad....I think I'll be heading back to work tomorrow:( LOL, I'll keep you posted.
