New to the forum and the problem!

Postby Iona » 11 Sep 2011, 13:29

Hello all,
I have been on antibiotics for nearly a month and have after vearing between liquid stomach and constipation am not suffering with the worst pain in my bottom I have ever had. Bleeding when passing with sharp pain and awful throbbing when i sit down, or even lie down.
It was getting better till i had a long car ride and since then it feels like i am sitting on a stick or something!
Anusol is not helping. I think the muscle is tight as hell which is causing the pain.
I couldnt sleep for hours due to the dull throbbing pain but in the morning it had subsided which is why i think its the muscle - have had back issues for years which displayed the same way.
I have the doctors tomorrow morning and i am afraid they will just send me away with pile cream. I really dont think it is piles.
Any advice for getting the docs to look a little more closely would be much appriciated!
great forum

Hi Iona,
Welcome to the forum. You aren't the first to say antibiotics caused a fissure...
I'm guessing that you will just be seeing a GP tomorrow since you haven't been diagnosed with your fissure yet?
I would tell them I have all the symptoms of an anal fissure and would like to be referred to a Colorectal Surgeon( CRS). I don't think I would even allow a GP to do a digital(finger) exam. I had three before seeing my CRS and none saw or mentioned a fissure. This was my GP and two hospital exams.
If your GP can't visualize the fissure from the outside then I would ask to be sent to a specialists to be examined.

Hi Iona - it does sound like a fissure to me. The sharp, stabbing pains are definitely familiar. I had those when I had my fissure. That are not fun!
I agree with Dawn that you should tell your doc that you have symptoms of a fissure and ask for a referral to a CRS. Meanwhile, I think you should stop using the Anusol because, in my experience, that stuff makes fissures worse - and don't use any pile cream the doc gives you either. Keep the stools soft with a good stool softener (like Miralax/Movicol), eat lots of fiber, drink LOTS of water, and take plenty of hot/warm baths too (they will help stimulate blood flow to the butt which helps with healing).
I really hope you find relief soon!
