Question

Postby Rosa M » 16 Oct 2011, 21:04

When having an abscess cut open and drained by a surgeon in his office, wouldn't a local anesthetic be given first? Has anyone had that done without it being numbed first or anyone have info on this. Websites I've seen state a local is normally given. I just want to know if im being a wimp because i have to go back to the dr tomorrow and I don't know if he will need to do this again if i should demand anes. Please help if you can.

Hi Rosa,
I found a link to one of NG's old post. He had an abscess.
Hope this helps. I think you should speak up if you aren't comfortable with what's being done.

Jenny and Steve, Thank you for asking! I'm doing better since the dr drained the abscess. Saw him again on Monday for recheck and it looked better. He said I could expect discomfort and discharge for a couple more weeks but the discharge has decreased quite a bit. Yesterday was a really good day. Today after two bms, I'm sore. Hanging in there through the little ups and downs.
