That is how my CRS said it.

Hey JoJo,
I know they serve the same purpose. Cauterizing smooths down the edges, doesn't actually remove the fissure as far as I know. A fissurectomy can be done by doing the same or cutting the fissure out to the best of my knowledge.
Tony, did your CRS really call cauterizing a fissurectomy? I've never heard that before...

That is what he told me , at the same time he said it still needed to heal. I will get more clarification at my next appt.

Thanks Tony. I'm real interested to hear what he says. Mine said fissurectomies make no sense and when I came out of surgery- she told me that she cauterized it. Image
Yeah it takes time to heal either way. Mine took 6 weeks.
I noticed that Happyass (another boardie), you and I all had the cauterizing done, and seem to have an easier recovery than some of the ones who had fissurectomies. Maybe the technique they use makes the difference. I don't know though... I can't find much on the internet when I try to research, except with a fissurectomy there is an excision of the fissure. I do remember her telling me she just smoothed down the edges.

My fissure was scraped clean of scar tissue and then stitched, not cauterized, in essence it's a new raw wound they create.... Painful!

@dawn, I am positive he called it a Fissurectomy because that scared me. But he did cauterize. My doc is Indian and I am thinking maybe he called it that for ease of understanding on my part. Just a guess.
