hi everyone. Still the same as before. Seen family dr. today and he just looked and said still small superficial tear with a skin tag. I asked for the creams and he said no, just use the vaseline, baths and fiber. He said its no big thing, he had one and it went away. Regarding seeing specialists, its very hard here where i live. I live in a small town and have to go out anywhere from 1/2 hr to 1 hr to see a dr. If dr. send me to a gastro or colorectal dr., it will take very long and i will have to travel 3 to 5 hrs. The 3 hr one has only 1 gasto dr. We have long waiting lines here in canada. I had to wait 4 months to see a urologist but that was 3 hr away and he's the only one there. Thee 5hr drive is a bigger city and would be a little less waiting than the 3 hr driveone. So basically i quess i just have to rely on my family dr. I do see another one when mine is away and he checks out good. I'm making an appt next week to see him.. I was planning to change to him but he seems to always be on short leavings and its hard to get any appt with him, its about 2 to 4 weeks wait, but sometimes you can get lucky.

i was just thinking if i do need the lis i am going to get dr.to refer me to a colorectal dr and just have to wait it out. I don't really trust my general surgeon, he says he does them but i would feel better witha specialist. I just hope i don't need surgery. When i read your posts you don't even have to wait long to see your colorectal dr.

Yet another DR that doesn't have a clue what the pain is like :( if he thinks just Vaseline, bathing and fibre will get rid of it then he needs to go back to meds school :roll:
I'm shocked that he said it's no big thing, I doubt he's ever had one, it's a lie!! I don't know what to say except change GP or see a CRS, the latter would be the best option, I really hate the lack of knowledge GP's have in this subject..

Seriously!!! No big thing??? Then he has never felt the pain of a fissure. It may be a small tear, but the pain is huge!! I think you should find another GP!!! This guy sounds like a hack. I cannot believe he would not even give you an ointment. I would get on the list and unfortunately wait it out. You could talk to your general surgeon and ask him how many he has done, etc....If you don't get the answers you want...at least you are on the waiting list for CRS. So sorry you are going through this. For now to help it eat make sure you eat soft fiber foods,drink lots of water, lots of soaks in the tub, miralax or milk of mag.

hi wanted to tell you that i also had 2 er rooms tell me before i took upon myself to go to a crs that i basically had a cut and to use vaseline and take baths. i had to literally call a crs myself because after coming home from er room i was in so much pain that i knew that there was something else wrong beside the normal cut.. these mds and gps just dont really know how to deal with a anal fissure. i would seek out another doctor. no way would i believe that i had just a cut if i felt that there was something else wrong with me... even if i had to drive 2 hours.. hope you get to feeling better soon...

But sputnik, you have ibd, right? Heck yes it's a big thing! And especially for anyone with ibd. WTF?

yes i have either colitis or chrons since oct/07 after 2 episodes of c-diff. I never really had d issues before until after the c-diff. I haven't even seen a gastro dr. yet as my dr. says it mild and if it gets worse. But when i saw the general surgeon 3 weeks ago for the fissure i asked him and he said when i'm ready he will refer me to a gastro dr. Rightnow i'm trying to deal with this fissure. Yes i also am going to find a different dr. and thanks for replies

It does sound like a big inconvenience but I would think the sooner you can see a good CRS the better for trying to get the fissure healed especially since you have IBD. I have both a GI and a CRS I see regularly for my Crohn's. The CRS handles all my peri-anal issues and does a wonderful job.

Hey Sputnik! I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with your doc. I get so angry when doctors are dismissive - they really just don't get how life-altering fissures are! I also think you should ask your doc to refer you to a good surgeon and a good GI doc. I'd say you need both, if you have IBD and a fissure. I wouldn't delay, even if your IBD is mild, since our wait-times in Canada are ridiculous.
Who diagnosed you with IBD? I didn't think that c diff actually caused IBD. I thought c diff just mimicks IBD and can make things a lot worse if you already have IBD. I really agree with PaulsPain. Get referred to good specialists now - a surgeon and a GI. A GP is over his or her head with IBD and fissures.
I really hope you get to see the right medical people soon!
