hi jenny, LIS helps in relaxing the anal muscles, thus reducing spasms and allowing good blood flow to heal the fissures. It is still crucial to keep up with good bowel habits (no straining, pushing) and good dietary habits (fair amount of fiber to keep things moving and softening stools) and fissure-caring regime (applying ointments such as aloe vera, vaseline, Nitro), supplements to aid healing (vit c) and sitz bath to encourage good blood flow.
i hope this help.
