Does deep breathing relax sphincter?

Postby reckless » 21 Jan 2012, 09:48

Does deep breathing (through your belly, not chest) stretch the sphincter.
When I breathe in like this I can feel all my muscles down there expand.
Has anyone else tried this?

Reckless,
It does. Deep abdominal breathing relaxes the muscles in the pelvic floor, and does help to relax the sphincter muscles as well. Also, any kind of deep relaxation techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, even sleep, will assist with relaxation throughout the body, including the sphincters.

Yes I thought so. My problem is that because my sphincter is tight the deep breathing causes a burning sensation. Because the sphincter is resisting the stretch.
But if I do it in a squatting position it's not as bad.
