Waiting Out the Spasms Again

Postby rasmith3530 » 09 Feb 2012, 01:21

Again I lay here in agony, with my spasms going strong. It's now been about two and a half hours since my BM, and the spasms came on almost immediately thereafter.
Luckily, the BM itself was not quite as bad tonight. I had a fair amount of pain, and a bit of blood, but at least I didn't feel like I was on Cape Kennedy and about to launch through my ceiling! It's the small things.
Now, I am hoping that the spasms will end before the sun rises on the horizon. I had just taken my night meds about fifteen minutes prior to my BM, and that may have had some effect on the lesser degree of pain, as my Nucynta would be just starting to kick in.
Oh all, I hope everyone is having peace and quiet tonight.

I should also mention that I had enough forewarning to grease myself up with Vaseline and I'd done a double shot on the MiraLAX today, so those must have had a positive effect as well.

Got to sleep late and had to be up early to see a "pain specialist" regarding my herniated disc, the spinal stenosis, and the resultant sciatica. It was too early to take my morning meds before we left, but I did get my fiber and MiraLAX out of the way as I ran out the door.
Got to the doctor's office not quite sure what to expect. First, I was interviewed and checked out by half of the staff due to my history. One main concern was that, with all my meds, I wasn't taking a blood thinner. I explained that I took baby aspirin today, but had missed it this morning due to the appointment.
Well after a history, review of my MRI, and conversing, a course of action was set upon. Hydrocortisone would be injected into the disc between the two affected vertebrae. The procedure, and recovery time was all explained, and then, thanks to missing my meds, it was decided we could proceed right away. They set me up, face down, on this machine that does real time X-ray, lowered my pantelones, lubed me up for sterility, then proceeded to give me six shots of local anesthesia around the area where the injections would be. Those were like minor pin pricks. A few moments later, along came the real stuff. I felt absolutely no pain, but did experience pressure as the liquid filled into the disc. It was a weird feeling, but not highly unpleasent. That was it. They cleaned me up, had me pull my knickers back up, and gave me a course of action to follow for the next few weeks, including physical therapy and a follow up visit.
When I'd first arrived, my blood pressure was reading a bit high; apprehension I'm assuming, with a side of anxiety. After the procedure, my BP was back in the normal range.
Among the things we discussed, my AF came up and also the meds I'm currently on. The doctor was QUITE familiar with fissures (hey, he's a pain doc). He was also one of the first docs outside my GP that had a clue about Nucynta ER, and his recommendation was to stop taking it for two days to see what would happen to my pain.
Well, we had a bit of running around to do before arriving back home. When I got home, I grabbed my meds, pulled out the narcotic and the baby aspirin and took the balance.
A short time later, I was feeling like it was that time again, so I greased myself up with Vaseline and prepared my mind for the worst. As Gomer Pyle used to say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!" I experienced very little pain during the BM itself, and my spasms have been minimal, although they are still there.
Now, was it the novacaine or what ever they numbed the area up with, the Hydrocortisone they injected into my spinal column, the lack of Nucynta ER, or a bit of each? Only time will tell. What I can say that right now is the most pain free I have been in over two months and I'm cherishing EVERY moment, although I was warned to take it easy the next few days, so no celebrating with a bike ride.
I hope you all are having a heaven sent, pleasant day!
