Hi I'm new here and have some questions

Postby Tuberose » 13 Mar 2012, 22:45

hi all, I'm a new member. I'm a 46 year old woman who's had anal fissures on and off for a few years. They tear easily and heal quickly. I'm hardly ever constipated but the tears occur when I strain or the bowel movement is a bit big. I also have anxiety and this makes me go to the toilet often. Sometimes up to five times a day so u can imagine the strain on my anal area. I've noticed a small skin growth on the anus rim at position 6 o clock if I was lying on my back (towards my back not between anus and vagina). It's darker in colour than the rest of the skin of the anus (like a dark pink/grey). When I saw the specialist 2 years ago he said there's some scar tissue but that's normal and most people have it...I'm not sure if he was referring to this skin tag or something else closer to the anal opening? I'm pretty sure this tag has been around for a while. Should I be worried and see the dr again? I can feel it I wipe and the reason I'm worried is my anus has been itching lately and my female dr had a look yesterday and said I have vaginal thrush and the anus looks a bit red. She didn't mention the tag (maybe because I didn't mention it) but she would have seen it right? Am I worrying too much? Please help :(

Welcome here :) Yes, I think you are worrying too much; I've had a skin tag ever since I had my first fissure many years ago. The only bother is cleanliness I find. Gone are the days when I could just wipe and run. I always use wipes after a bm to keep the area really clean, though now while I have a fissure I go in the sitz bath after going to the loo.
I've also found that some of the wipes can irritate the anus making it red and itchy.

Hi baba, thanks for your reply. In my case I've probably had the tag for a while but never worried about it. Since I've been applying anti fungal cream it came to my attention today and I had a close look at it. Is it considrered a scar tissue? Is that what the dr meant or is scar tissue somewhere else on the anus??

Hey Tuberose,
I answered about the sentinel on your other post. But about the scar tissue.
I'm guessing they are probably seeing the thin scars left by your previous tears. A sentinel isn't a scar but a protective skin growth. I have a ridge right up the side of my fissure too. When things are less inflamed and I'm healing, they both shrink quite a bit.
Hope the anti fungal is working for you!
