Return to LIS - Considering surgery or already had it?

Hi aram,
I had my LIS on the 14th March and was told the greatest risk following surgery is infection rather than incontinence. Now the first thing i must add is that infection is rare after LIS, after all you have probably had an open wound with your fissure for a few months without problems so why would you suddenly get infected now?
So the signs to look out for are an increase in bleeding (not just a spot of blood on the toilet roll), an increase in pain after you thought you were getting better and discharge or puss.
If you have a look around the anal opening and you see something that looks like a spot with some slight discharge then that could indicate an infection or if there is a lump that is painful to touch.
Looking at your symptoms it could just actually be irratation you are getting from your surgical incision wound. At the stage you are currently at you could expect some weeping from the wound which would show as a light yellowish/browny staining. The wound could also be prone to a little bleeding as this actually takes longer to heal than the fissure itself. What i found is that the discomfort from the incision wound increased over time - the reason behind this is because the swelling actually protected the wound in the first place so when it actually reduced it left the wound more open to the elements.
Various websites to tell you to get things checked out once your temerpature goes over 38 so you are ok so far.
Anyway to put your mind at ease it is always advisable to go and see a specialist or a GP and to get things checked out properly.

Hey davo thanks for your comment and your support. Well i really hope that this is not an infection. Toda i noticed the discharge is brownish on the gauze. I really donno how to tell if this is normal discharge or pus. I am soaking now in a warm water after i had ny painless bm. Fever is 37.2 upon waking up but the thing is now i can feel the incision site its ver hard and it goes all the way down to the bottom of my butt. Its painful to sit on.

I had exactly the same thing, somedays it was slightly brown and other days it was like a yellowish colour. Anyway I thought it was liquid stool but my CRS told me it was weeping from the incision wound and nothing to worry about.
The incision site starts at the entrance of your backside and goes slightly inside - on some occasions if you wipe to hard you can cause it some disturbance which can draw a spot of blood and give you some minor irratation.

So my docs assistant confirmed that i have an infection and told me it must be drianed and there is a possible fistula as well. He refered me to another crs since my doc is out of town. I called the docs office and pushed so he could see me today, i see him at 5 today.

Hey,
So I had LIS about 2 months ago, and I am now in the same position as you. After about 6 weeks i started to have some itching and bleeding. I went to a new CRS, and he said that I had a fistula. I am now sitting in a hospital bed waiting for surgery in the morning.
The good news is, abcess/fistulas that develop from LIS are not as serious as normal ones. Draining the abcess is a quick process done under local anysthesia. If it does turn out to be a fistula, it is above the muscle as opposed to a normal fistula that is below the muscle. It therefore is really easy to treat and has almost no chance of complication.
Anyway, after having gone through it once, the second surgery seems easier. Hope you get through it ok.

So i just came back from the hospital. Had anal abcess and fistula. Surgery was milder than my first one. Also i just had a bm before i left the hospital it was fine. Besides the pus and the bleeding everything looks fine. Hope this will be the end of my ass problems as i am eager to resume my life. Will keep you all updated

Aram and anybodyguy
I'm so sorry to hear of your complicated recovery and need for additional surgery. I hope these latest surgeries put an end to your pain for good. Best wishes to both of you.

Thank you jr2. It turned out that i only had an abcess. Pain is very minimal and bm are painless thank god. Am using epsom salt with my sitz bath which is really helping. Drying the area with gauze as well. As far as things go everything is going smoothly figers crossed.
