Feeling hopeless

Postby De819 » 27 Apr 2012, 21:23

New to the board but have been dealing with this fissure for a year now. I feel pretty much hopeless this fissure has brought my life to a grinding hault. I'm 30 years old. I was a collegiate athlete and had continued playing comepetive soccer since college I've run marathons worked out everyday. Almost one year ago I had a large bm that created this fissure and I have not worked out played sports or left my house for anything but work in that time.I'm so depressed it seems that every time I make progress I have a set back. Ive lost 30lbs of muscle lost my passion for sports and life. I just want to be better. I swear if I ever get better I'm going to run until my lungs burst. Hoping I find hope here or somewhere.

Hi De819
Yes, we all understand your pain and your feelings very well. Have you seen a colorectal specialist for your fissure? What kinds of treatments have you tried? This forum is a great place for information and support.
I'm so sorry for your pain. Some days hope is really hard to find. That's what makes support from others so important. You'll find a lot of support, information, and understanding here.

hi
that sounds sooo tough! i had to drop out of a college course too and have been off of work for a while. there are treatments that can help and cure this. if its been going on a while it might be a good idea to see a colorectal surgeon. if the diet thing hasnt worked, there are creams and minor surgery. i've had LIS and i really wish i had had it done sooner. it was really the only thing that made a dent in the pain.
there is lots of advice and other tips etc on this forum as jr2 says that you can try if you dont want to go down the medical route though.

Been to the cars which sadly was not great. The day I went on the way I remember saying this is the best I have felt in months. I think the exam was a little rough and re opened it set me back a solid 6 weeks. Got some cream which does help with sleeping and functioning. Taking baths as often as possible it as mentally theraputic as physcially for me. I'm just struggling to get regular and get my stool softer. I drink over 100 oz of water a day eat sliced pears for breakfast have decade tea with honey in the am a small PBS ang j on wheat for lunch whith a kiwi usually salad for dinner with 4 or 5 figs or prunes to was it all down. One week it will be perfect every day 5 pm perfect consistency. Next week won't go for 3 days and it will be concrete. I'm very confused

What did your doc say about the inconsistent BMs?
Have you tried a stool softener like miralax?
Could it be a food intolerance?
There's a couple people here who didn't make headway til they ate brown rice every day...
Anyways, just throwing ideas around.
I sure hope you find a path soon. Perhaps another CRS would be more helpful?
I know what you mean by the exam setting you back though. Image
Perhaps a GI or a naturopath or a nutritionist to help with the BMs?
Can you get out and walk? It's not as much exercise wise, but it helps mentally with the anxiety and depression.

Yeah tried stool softeners went a little extreme with it like 6 a day extreme so that didn't do anything so I cut back. I'm going to try a small amount of benifiber with breakfast. And yes I agree I need to try to at least start doing something to relieve stress and anxiety I partially believe it's half in my head and that I'm so worried about going that I've basically stopped the system mentally.

Yah, stress is hard to solve. It's like a catch 22.
But walking is not only good for that, it is also good for moving the bowels along too. A 'constitutional', as they used to say. :)
It takes several days for miralax to start to work for some people. Perhaps you didn't try long enough?

I was really only doing colace but stated with 1 am 1 pm just stopped at 3 am and 3 pm. Went back to 1 just pm. It seemed to do nothing whatsoever or even had a reverse effect. I'm just starting miralax now and I keep hearing brown rice. So brown rice we shall try hell it cant hurt. On an up note had a great normal timely bm today. This is now what excites me. Haha. I shall continue marching and fighting for recovery.

Colace never worked for me either and I have heard of other people finding this to be the case as well. I've not tried miralax myself, but others here swear by it.
I'm able to get by with metamucil and prune juice.
So glad you have such a great attitude! It really helps healing.
I like lundberg's brown basmati best. You have to get used to starting it early as it takes 35 min to cook. I like to make extra and reheat it for the next meal.
If you're near a trader joes, their brown jasmine is pretty yummy too, and cooks a wee bit faster.

Just got jasmine brown rice two days ago now it's quite good. Stopped the colace which has strangely helped my bm train. I stopped taking changed nothing else and constipation is pretty much gone. I still think it's too early to tell but I'm cautiously optimistic. Felt good watching my roommates eat chicken fingers and fries while I had a fresh garden salad with rice almost felt bad for them....... Almost!
