Hi All,
I've been suffering from an anal fissure for 9 months, ever since the birth of my daughter last August. I am still breastfeeding and the docs say that it is likely it will go away after she weans. I'm not interested in stopping breastfeeding until she's at least 1. Then it's all about how long I can keep going with the pain. I have healed once or twice over the past 9 months. Once it was for 2 months!! It felt amazing to be free of the pain/worry. Was devastated when it came back.
Currently I feel like I'm on the up & up. Have been reading posts on here for a few months before joining. Thank you so much for the intro to Miralax!!! This time I'm taking the brown rice advice (one serving a day) and doing sitz baths along with the Miralax twice a day (half in evening/half in morning). I've got my fingers crossed and I'm knocking on wood as I post this.
I know it's different for everyone, but I'm wondering how people feel about the idea that it will just go away when I'm no longer breastfeeding. I keep feeling like the longer I have this, the more likely I'll have it forever. I don't know if it has to do with hormones or what?
Am feeling very grateful for this forum and thank everyone for sharing their stories/advice.

Welcome to the forum, BW
I can't believe you've been dealing with yours for 9 months! You are a very dedicated mother! :) I'm sorry I can't help you with giving advice regarding healing with weaning. have you tried a search on it here? there are plenty of mothers on this forum who have also dealt with this. I know the feeling of feeling like you will have it forever. I actually can't recall a time when I didn't have pain with having a BM, but am hopeful that I will heal soon with the team of doctors i have in place. Hang in there, only you know how much you can put up with/handle in regards to on going pain - but there is no sense in dealing with ongoing pain if there is something you can do to resolve it sooner. Good luck with your healing and congratulations to motherhood!

I did stop breastfeeding but my milk supply began to dry up a bit as when I first got my fissure I barely ate anything and lost a lot of weight. It was a really really hard couple of weeks - the horrible pain of the fissure and my hormones all over the place giving up feeding...I literally cried almost all the time.
I don't like to say I am healed as I am so scared I will jinx it but so far so good....since I stopped feeding I have been 100% better (but also still doing all the miralax, healthy eating to ensure soft stools etc). I was gutted to stop feeding but I couldn't be a good mom with the pain I was in as I could barely move and at least now I am back to being able to do all the things I want to do with my children.
Good luck with your decision...it's a hard one.

so sorry you had to go through this. i really feel for you when you talk about crying all the time when you stopped breastfeeding. it sux to have to make that decision based on something so awful. you made the right decision for your situation though. how long did you breastfeed? how long did you have the fissure and how long has it been without symptoms?
