DO I HAVE FISSURES? PLEAS HELP!

Postby 10yrsofpain » 15 May 2012, 07:45

i am 27 years old and believe im suffering from anal fissures. this all started about 10 years ago in highschool, i dont remember exactly when it happened but when i made a BM i had this painful burning and itching pain afterwards. felt like razors slicing my anus. that lasted for maybe 4-5 years until i was in college. when i met me gf at the time, ab 3 weeks into the relationship the pain stopped and i was able to make BM's with no pain afterwards. 3.5 years later we broke up and literally within 2 weeks the pain returned. I have MINIMAL to no pain when i BM now, but afterwards i have the painful stinging and burning which prevents me from doing ANY physical activity. sometimes i can make a BM and be fine, no pain, no itching, sometimes its minimal, but sometimes its pretty severe. Hot baths do help. i have changed my diet, and work out 5 times a week so if i do not BM i can function fine for the most part. i do have minimal burning in the AM if the day before i had a bad flare up. but once i go to bed, im usually fine the next morning.i have no bleeding of any kind. but this has lasted another 2 years and im ready to see a Dr. iv tried the internet, "natural healing" ointment which does not seem to "heal" .... but what im reading so far from others post is not necessarily what im experiencing. any advice? i hear Vaseline before or after BM's help... or should i just go see a Dr.? and if so, do i need to see a G.I.? iv read mixed reviews on here about the G.I experience. from what i haev described, in your opinion do i need surgery? ANY advice/help would be greatly appreciated

aww, you are so young to be dealing with this...sorry..I am going to tell you what I would tell my kids...go see the dr. Find a good one and tell them everything. They will hopefully be able to give you guidance on if u should get a colonoscopy or not. The thing is, you need to get this under control . It isn't normal to have that burning and itching for so many years and it might be something really simple a dr. could recommend. You deserve to feel good , and as with all of us, the annoyance of it all is extremely stressful which does not help matters. Good luck and I hope you feel better!

A colorectal surgeon (CRS). Just because you go to a CRS doesn't mean you need surgery - you just want to see a doctor that deals with anal issues all day, every day.

sorry 10yrs....just got home....yes make appt with crs....depending on your insurance you may need to call your general practitioner for a referral. If you dont have insurance, then just go for the CRS...and dont be afraid to tell dr. everything...they deal with this all the time and wont even bat an eye. Good luck honey...(the mum in me wants to give you a big hug!)
