Had Botox 5 days ago, need some advice as I'm feeling down.

Hi everyone
I had Botox five days ago, since then I have radically changed my diet, I now have a BM every day (twice today), before surgery I went once or twice a week and bled a lot. Since the Botox the bleeding seems to have stopped but the pain hasn't gone away at all. My body has got into a pattern of needing to go to the toilet as soon as I wake up in the morning which I'm sure is good the healing the fissure, but bad because I cannot leave the house at all! I'm feeling really down today because I cannot see it getting any better, I honestly preferred it before getting botox when I would only have to deal with the pain 2 days a week.
Will the pain lessen? my doctor/surgeon said that it takes around six weeks for it to really work but I'm not feeling very optimistic.
I also have other questions but I'll ask them later.

Hi and welcome Image ,
I'm sorry you're still in pain and feeling discouraged about your procedure. I understand about frustration when things don't go as we had hoped and planned for Image
I did not have botox done, I had lis, but I do hope someone who did have this procedure will be able to offer you some support and first hand in-sight about their experience and hopefully can alleviate some of your concerns. Image
Best Wishes for healing,

Hey POM,
Did you get Botox with or without a fissurectomy?
I totally understand your frusteration as I had a really slow recovery after my 1st botox (with fissurectomy) injection last january. However, I understood that my significant pain was due to the fissurectomy and she sewed the fissure up - which retore anyway my 2nd week post-op. At that time, I took a full 2 weeks off work and still really struggled (basket case, crying) when I tried to return to work half days bcz it would take at least 4 hours every morning to get thru my routine. This was further aggravated by the fact that everytime I went back to my CRS because of the continued pain, inflammation, etc (at 1week, 2weeks, 3 weeks, 2 months, 3 months) she really didn't help me. At 3 weeks post op when I saw her (that was a terrible visit - major pain and she couldn't help me), I saw my primary care doctor and she urged me to seek a 2nd opinion. Moral of the story is that it can be very confusing and frusterating to know what to expect, what is normal, and how long it should really take to feel better after these procedures. And it only made matters worse that my CRS was not very responsive to my needs (I just thought I was being a baby or that for some reason my body wasn't cooperating). But since I've changed to another CRS, it's been a completely different experience. I had a 2nd botox injection done by him less than 2 weeks ago and am experiencing relief I haven't known for over 6 months. The effects revealed themselves 5 days post-op. What I really appreciated about him was that he is willing to move to the next step (another botox or LIS) whenever the patient asks (as soon as 2 weeks after the prior procedure, if the patient is not feeling relief, he doesn't believe in "waiting it out" if someone is truly desperate and suffering) - whereas my last CRS made me suffer for 3 months "to see if the procedure works/if the fissure heals". And even then she wanted me to come back after another month, bcz I still hadn't healed. Now, after having my 2nd botox and knowing what it feels like when it's "successful" - it feels like the 1st botox never happened, or just plain failed - who knows. Discomfort for the 1st week is definitely to be expected - especially if you weren't feeling that with daily BM's. Lots of hot sitz baths and a small step-stool to prop your feet on helps BM's go smoother and the use of vicodin PRN - and as long as the stool is super soft and you're taking lots of fiber, water and keeping meats, cheeses, bad foods to a minimum, you're doing everything you can. Aside from that, do not hesitate to "pester" your doctor if you are still feeling bad or dealing with a lot of pain. If he is responsive to it great. If he is not, then I strongly urge you to seek another CRS that will respond to your needs, complaints, pain. Good luck and hang in there! There's loads of great, supportive people on this forum to help you thru the dark days so you will not be alone and you will get through this! Image

Hi Piece of Mind,
I had botox done last November and to be honest for the first 2 days I felt no real pain. On the 3rd day (my first bowel movement) I was in agony as I re-tore another fissure. I bled after this for 3 weeks (which I have never done before). It took until after christmas to start to feel better. I must admit in the long run I think it has helped me. They didn't inject alot of botox with me which caused this pain. Just a warning too, it took 1-1.5 weeks for the botox to take effect. In January the botox started to wear off and I got spasms again so used rectogesic, have since been to another CRS. He says I have healed, but it has healed on top and underneath and not underneath.
I know it's hard but if you give it a bit of time it will improve. I thought it never would but it has! Keep up with the fibre and water, and contact your CRS to see if they would recommend you using the cream alongside the botox. Feel free to ask any more questions, I hope this helps :D

I didn't have a fissurectomy. My bowel movement today was the least painful by far, but there was a little blood, not much at all but a little. I've ordered some Coconut oil and I'm looking forward to trying that out, I hope it helps.

I had Botox April 2nd and do not feel better at all. After reading sailor gals entry I wonder if we've seen the same doctor. I had the Botox done in manhattan by the head of colorectal surgery at a very good hospital. It didn't work and the crs told me the next step was LIS. Mind you he never even saw a fissure. I went for a 2nd opinion and she told me I have to give Botox 3 months which sounds crazy to me. She at least diagnosed the fissure I was crying in her office in pain and she said see you in July. Still searching for someone who cares. I have another appointment with a different specialist the end of June. I'm petrified but if he recommends surgery I will give in. I've been suffering for 6 months. The first crs was quick to do Botox and quick to recommend surgery. The 2nd crs said there was no magic bullet and to be patient. Seriously after 6 months! I wouldn't do another Botox injection. It was painful and it didn't help. I'm working on healing myself. I have 4 weeks! I wish you luck and hope Botox work for you

ps, Badd, after what I went thru, and in hindsight, it is crazy to wait 3 months if you are not feeling any improvement with the Botox/if you are struggling with pain. I think I might tend to be unrealisticially optimistic and expected/thought I was getting incrementally better - but now looking back, I did get somewhat better, but definitely didn't heal (I had to use 1-2 week increments to compare for progress and even then it was variable at best).

Well it's almost been 3 weeks since I've had Botox and I've just had my first pain free BM in over 5 years. I am so happy, I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and I can see that being fully recovered is something that can be done.
I know my journey to healing has only just started but at age 20 I can't help but think that I may start to be able to have a life. :)
