what do you think about my doc recommendation???

Postby NewMummy » 28 May 2012, 23:33

I went to specialist today. I said I had hemmies after giving birth 5 months ago....They are shrinking but veeeery slowly. And I also said I had pains for 4 months until about 2-3 weeks ago that he agreed would be due to a fissure. He then did a quick external examination (2-3 seconds), could not see fissure and could not see hemmies externally. So he said fissure is healed (I mean really...is it????after 2-3 weeks????people here talk about months!!!) he also said he'd rubber band the hemmies. I said I wanted another baby and I had heard people waiting with that sort of things until children were out of the way. He said he'd do it now because it was a very uncomplicated procedure...anyyone had any experience with this???
He also told me to come off stool softeners because I was too young to use them. I really want to come off them but am scared about what it can do to my poos and re-tear fissure...?? It's been soooo nice to have 2 weeks pretty much pain free that I don't want to do anything risky.....
All in all I'm not sure if I trust him very much and so I hope someone here can convince me if I should see someone else or do what this man said.
Thanks :D

Hi,
Most people heal that quick from fissures.
I don't know about banding the hemmies. If they are already healing, even though slowly, why do that?
Are you breastfeeding? Could you try one of those oral hemorrhoid cures?
If he suggests coming off the stool softeners, why not do so slowly and increase your water and fiber just in case?
Or give it a full month of being healed first?
If you don't trust him, then get a second opinion. You aren't in a hurry are you? :D
After i had my daughter it took about 3 months for the hemmie I got to heal, and that was while taking 4 sitz baths a day to help heal my episiotomy from hell.
So glad your fissure is healed!!!

Thanks for your insight Tanya!!! Cannot believe fissure might be healed after all these months...won't celebrate just yet though in case I get my hopes up and then I get it back. I'll save the celebration for the day I'm off stool softeners and still feeling good :D
I am breastfeeding. Is that the reason no doc has told me about any oral hemmie cures?? Can you please tell me what that is so that I can ask doc? I'd rather not do the whole rubber banding thing...
Sorry to hear about your hemmies and episiotomy from hell. I cannot believe how much damage one little baby can do to our bodies!!! Did you have any more babies after your lovely experience? Just asking because I wonder what a potential new pregnancy and birth might do to hemmies and fissures...
Hope your day is going as well as it possibly can and thanks again for your help.

Hi NewMummy,
Thanks for you tip on soluble fibre, I've switched my All Bran cereal (recommended by my specialist's assistant!) for oatmeal and it's working a treat so far :)
I have no experience with hemmies, so haven't got advice on that for you, but if you aren't 100% confident with your dr, I'd get a second opinion - if he is going to be doing any procedures on you, you really need to trust him. Throughout my experience with this whole nasty AF business I've learned that it's important to listen to my intuition and keep pushing until I get the answers I need. I've also learned that a lot of the health professionals I have consulted don't really have the best understanding of this problem and I think I have learned more from this website than from the doctors I have to pay!!!
If you feel like your fissure has healed - yay, great news! But maybe stay conservative and do what you have been doing and don't mess with it for a while until you feel more confident.
and I totally know what you mean about babies messing with our bodies! holy moly ha ha ha! never knew any of this stuff existed a few months ago....speaking of babies mine has just woken. Good luck with your decisions :D

Hi,
The herbal remedy I was thinking of is called hemclear. It helped this member;
http://anal-fissure.org/t4409-i-know-i-am-new-but-this-was-a-miracle-heal-for-me#70246
but I don't know if it is safe to take while breastfeeding and I don't know if a doctor could tell you either. Whenever I ask a doctor about an herbal remedy they always shrug and say they don't follow that stuff.
I wonder if your healing the fissure will make the hemmies heal faster too anyways? They are often caused by the same thing, a too tight sphincter, so now that you are healed, your anus might start to relax more and allow healing of the hemmies too???
Just hypothesizing Image
I didn't have another baby so I can't help you there. But I would imagine so long as you are careful to keep your BMs soft, despite fluctuating hormones, that you need not worry.

Tori-tore, I'm so glad you figured out something that helps you. Hopefully you have more energy now to enjoy your baby! Thanks for reminding me to trust myself...sometimes it's hard to do that when you have experts telling you to do something. So it's game on...I started this healing process by myself so surely I can finish it by myself...or at least try to for another couple of months!
Tanya, thanks for that herb...I'll look into it myself because you're absolutely right, I don't think my doc would have a clue what it is. And you might be right about everything healing more quickly now...the last 3 weeks have been amazing compared to the months before, so fingers crossed it will keep going like this. Thanks again for your help. I've noticed you're quite active on this forum, you must be helping a lot of people. I'm really glad you're here Image

Tanya, you're a clever lady. I think you were spot on with the sphincter being tight and not allowing fissures or hemmies to heal...I ended up using a which hazel cream and put some inside my bum to treat the hemmies and in the start it was soooo uncomfortable to try to get it in..but as the fissure healed and hemmies got smaller everything just seemed to feel better and better and now I have no problems with fissures or hemmies Image
I looked into the herbs for hemmies and yeah..they seem to have helped tons of people but cannot be used whilst breastfeeding. Something to try in the future if hemmies become bothersome again!
