I'm new. Surgury 6 days ago.

Hi there. My name is Trish. I have an extensive history of diarhea and have had pain and bleeding with some. I had no clue until this un-healing fissure that I was having fissures. I thought my pain was normal. I went to the ER on the weekend and the dr told me I had a hemorhoid and put topical cream on it, waited too long, and then tried to push the "hemorhoid" back in. He then referred me to-ready for this?-a breast surgeon. Idiot. Image My dr suggested a colorectal surgeon and she took one look and told me I had a fissure and what he was trying to push in was a skin tag. She had me try out one insertable cream and one topical muscle relaxer. Those didn't work. The insertable cream hurt more than anything!! I felt like I had pieces of glass in my rectum. :( The second time I saw her she tried to examine me further and when I cried out in pain she said I needed surgery.
I had the surgery last wednesday and I can honestly say that I was only in pain (which was equal to my pre-surgery pain) for a couple of days. After that I was just uncomfortable. I rested for a few days and then started doing small things around the house and worked (desk job) since Saturday. I cannot believe just how tired I am. Also, I'll start to feel 75% better and then will either have another bout of diarhea or a hard bm and I'm back to 50% better.
I am not sure if I am trying to do too much too fast. How long is the recovery period? At what point should I have stopped resting so much? Also, I seem to get some wetness down there when I haven't passed gas or had a bm. I was thinking maybe it was normal leakage that people sometimes get (I have been reading around on this forum) but this is a whitish discharge tinged with a yellowish color. It has a weird smell to it but does not smell like poop/gas. Is this normal? Image Last night I had a temp of 99.2 but this morning my temp is normal.
Anyway, sorry to be so long winded. lol

I haven't had surgery so I can't comment from experience, but a lot of members here who have had surgery mention a lot of different types of pains, twinges, bleeding and discharge with recovery. When in doubt it is always best to check with your surgeon to make sure your recovery is proceeding as it should. You might post your question in the surgery forum for those who have had surgery and can comment further on their experiences.
Wishing you all the best with your healing!

Hi Trish
I'm day 12 post surgery and my doctor told me to give myself two to three weeks to recover. He gave me a medical certificate for work for two weeks and told me to call him if I needed more time off. I have found the recovery to be very much a case of two steps forwards and one step back.
Today was probably the first day where I felt like I could resume normal life. I went out, I ran some errands and did some housework. However I am taking it one day at a time and as i write this I am almost dreading tomorrow.. I ate alot more today than I usually eat (only cause i was hungry for the first time since the surgery!) and won't be surprised if tomorrow is not such a good day... so fingers crossed
The bm this morning was still a bit painful but it was a manageable level of pain, more of a bruisng sort of pain rather than a passing glass sort of pain and I recovered quickly from it and didn't feel the need to take a pain killer.
I have had a little discharge as well and sounds just like what you describe. I have worn a sanitary pad ever since the surgery.
I am hoping to be well enough to go back to work next Monday which will be 16 days post surgery.
Wishing you a speedy and quick recovery:)
Kat
