Welcome to the forum!
Yes, anal fissures can bleed quite a bit. As you mentioned, the blood would be bright red (as opposed to dark red, which would indicate that the blood is coming from higher up in the G.I. tract). Of course, only a doctor can tell you for certain where the blood is coming from.
Yes, you can use your finger to apply the Anusol, in my opinion. Make sure your finger is clean, of course. I would recommend picking up some Latex Finger Cots, such as these from Amazon:

You may also want to use a stool softener like Miralax, which is available over-the-counter and has been a lifesaver for many of us on the forum.
The absolute
BEST advice I can give you is to go to a colorectal surgeon (CRS) ASAP. Just because you go to a CRS doesn't mean you will need to have surgery - you just want to go to a specialist that deals with these kinds of issues day in and day out. The best decision I ever made was to go to a CRS.
A CRS will likely give you a prescription for Nifedipine or Diltiazem which you apply to the anus which will help relax the sphincter muscle allowing the fissures to heal in most cases (according to my CRS). The quicker you start using Nifedipine or Diltiazem, the better your chances of healing.
Good luck!
