after five weeks of constant pain i have finally been told it is an anal fissure.I have been subscribed diltazem cream on the nhs but i did have to wait 2 days while they ordered it as it is quite expensive.(Ј118)I am now on my second day of using it and so far i have not seen any sign of improvement but it is early days. After a bm i can be in quite some pain for up to 8 hours or more and suffer spasms frequently.

Hi Stefan,
Stick with it!!! Hopefully now the cream is taking more of an effect on your fissure?
Diltazem was my life saver...It provided me with pain relief pretty quickly "numbing" the intensity of the thing whilst it was healing. I used it for 7 weeks and although, I was a bit scared to come off it because I got to the point of virtually no pain, I was fine! I believe this really helped in healing my fissure. I always applied mine internally and twice a day.
Hoping it helps you too. Are you taking pain killers too to help with the general pain? - they do really help.....
The other alternative is Nitro/ Rectogesic if the Diltazem isn't helping but it does give you a bit of a head rush/ ache!!
Good luck. Hope the cream assists in your healing :)
