I am home!.... And in one piece!

Postby owmybum » 19 Nov 2012, 08:04

Hi all,
Just to say I am back from my holiday to Florida! I have survived... Just!
I can't lie and say everything was good... It wasn't. A couple of days in I got the dreaded sickness and dioreah, which you all know is scary stuff when you have such a sore butt! I had to take Imodium in the end, which I was scared to do, but it didn't bung me up like I thought it would.
I took my trusty cushion with me EVERYWHERE! It was a god send in all the parks. Seats are so hard. Some days were very painfull, some days not so much. All in all I coped.... But it's sad to even say that I had to cope.. I should have just been able to enjoy myself.
I have come back to 3 different hospital apps. One for a rectal ultrasound, one for a defacating proctogram, and one for an anal physiology assessment..... Mmmm can't wait! I hope all these tests can get to the bottom(sorry) of things and find out just why I am not healing!
I hope everyone is in good spirits

owmybum!
So glad to hear from you! Though I'm so sorry your holiday was shadowed by tummy and bottom problems. sigh. I'm so glad though that you did go and you made the best you could out of your trip. Welcome back!
Looks like you've got a lot of testing in your future. I hope they do get to the bottom of your problem, and I hope you'll keep us updated. Not that many people undergo this kind of thorough testing, and I'm actually really encouraged to hear about this approach. I don't recall, have you had surgery for your fissure?

Hi jr2,
No... I have not had surgery for my fissure. I had surgery back in feb 11 for hem banding and tag removal, which in turn led me to gaining a chronic fissure.
I am not looking forward to any of the tests... It's all so invasive and embarrassing.... But at this point in time I will do anything to resolve my af.

OMB, You got your fissure in the exact same way that I did, I had hemmorhoid banding in 2008 which caused my fissure, never been the same since and would avoid banding at all costs.
Your tests could prove to be helpful (hopefully)
The Defecography test shows the rectum and anus during defecation and detects abnormalities in the lower bowel:

Steve,
I think it's such an important point. Though I've never had banding so it isn't how my fissures came about, banding a hemorrhoid creates so many opprtunities for more problems. The area left behind itself forms a small ulceration. Further, there is also a chance for spasming and narrowing of the anal canal, leaving the anus more vulnerable to tearing. Doctors always seem so nonchalant about hemorrhoid banding, and even banding multiple hemorrhoids at one time, but I keep hearing more and more people who have more problems after having had it done.
Thank you for adding your experience.

Thank you all,
Yes, I think the banding and tag removal was the worst decision I have ever made. I wish I had found this site before.... I actually think I suffered for years not only from hems but fissures that would heal up in about 2 to 3 months. I thought I would be pain free and it would be the answer to all my probs........but I have not had a single pain free day since 3 feb 2011!!
Suffering from jet lag at the mo.... Any handy tips on that?

It's good to see you back. Not fair that you couldn't just relax and enjoy your holiday but hopefully next time.
I'm still struggling but making some progress though it does seem to be two steps forward and one step back! Perhaps when you have a moment you would have a look at my latest post please.I'd be glad of your views.

Thank you OMB for prompt advice. I value your opinion and am glad that you endorse my decision.
I saw the consultant himself and he mentioned two months for the follow up which seemed reasonable to me. I'm hoping I won't need it!
Good luck with all your further investigations. Such a shame diltiazem cream provokes bad reaction in you.
Best Wishes
