Sweet,
Well, having had some experience with surgeries in other parts of my body I can say that being a sensitive person I have lingering problems with pains and soreness and irritation and even nerve pain in two of my surgical sites, so I think it's totally possible you're getting some lingering irritation that may not necessarily be visible. I know all my surgical sites look fine too. No redness or irritation or anything.
If it's something that continues to bother you, you might want to consult with a different type of doctor. There are interesting new kinds of topicals being compounded for these kinds of things, and someone who specilializes more in pain might have some insight for you. My last CRS is giving me a referral to a pain specialist since I'm not a good candidate for surgery to see if a pain specialist might have some new ideas to offer. Jst thought I'd pass that on for what it's worth.

Hmmm - I think you're right, that maybe there's irritation that can't be seen. A person's nerves (I mean, the nerves and nerve endings we have) can really make us think something weird or different is happening . . . and maybe I do need a doctor for pain management.
I also have arthritis and joint pain - and like you, I'm an extremely sensitive person. Everything always seems to affect me harder than in other people - medications, alcohol, viruses, certain foods, chemicals, etc. Whatever is out there, or around me, I always get hit harder by it than everyone else seems to.

Sweet,
We do sound alike!
Everything with my body turns into a drama.
The most similar problem I have (other than the fissures that are causing me misery) to what you're describing is a surgical site where I had a cyst removed five years ago where the doctor cut through the inside of the vaginal wall to remove the cyst. It has left me with severe nerve pain. Every time I sit down I feel like there are multiple needles being stuck in there and though I swear the tissue itself must look very raw and irritated the doctor says no, there is just a bit of a scar there that looks totally normal. Female exams and Pap smears have become a nightmare of pain now because the area cannot be touched without severe pain. Anyway, all that to say, you're very right when you bring in the sensitivity issue. Being the same way myself has proven frustrating for me and for doctors over the years. My GI doctor always tells me My brain and central nervous system are wired for pain.

jr, I agree - we do seem very much alike. I have been extra, extra sensitive all my life. --- Oh, gosh, I totally understand your female problems and concerns. I've had four c-sections, and I haven't felt quite right since having them. Recently, I underwent a transvaginal ultrasound, to see what was going on in there - and nothing was found. --- One drink puts me under the table, antibiotics really knock me out, certain foods make me feel ill, I have acid reflux and IBS, I always burn instead of tanning (so I have to avoid the sun), I'm sensitive to loud noises, etc., etc., etc. . . . the list goes on.
This morning my bottom end feels scratchy and a little raw. I know - I KNOW - that something feels awry in there, even though yesterday the CRS said he didn't see anything unusual. I guess I'll spend my life taking ibuprofen and watching myself, even more carefully than I already have to. :(
We're in the same boat. HUGS to you, btw.

Yes - and having someone to talk to and vent to is comforting. Thanks for being there. Hugs back to you. :)

Just a quick update for those of you who have been on here a while and know me!! For those of you who don't then you may find some of my old posts! All was going well then over half term I got the norovirus.....with disastrous consequences! Well I used the rectogesic again for a while and just reducing it now again. I had my patch tests last week and it showed I am allergic to two things - neither of which helps with my related skin problem! So I have been back to the GP tonight and he has prescribed under the guidance of the hospital amitriptyline. Its an anti-depressant drug but for it to be taken for depression it has to be given in higher doses and I will be on the lowest dose to start with to manage pain. I asked whilst there as I am still having problems with the bum area ( to put it bluntly!) and my coccyx. My GP did a thorough examination and said there was no fistula, abscess or pilonidal sinus evident and that the fissures had healed. I trust him, he has been great over the past 6 months and much better than the other GP in the practice. He believes I am having nerve pain and muscle spasm but not really the sphincter but in the whole area as a reaction to the operations etc. So hopes that the pain killer drug will help with that too. The tablets take 6-8 weeks to work so its a waiting game really. I hope that this is it/the solution! It has been a long road but I think the key is not to give up. No one should have to live in pain and suffer as there is always relief available. I am trying to remain positive, even drove last week for the first time. Over 50 miles and only a few twinges so fingers crossed things will be better soon and with the pain relief things can only get better. Even if these don't work there are others to try.
I don't want people thinking by the way that I am advocating taking tablets or pushing them. But to be honest after nearly 2 years and with all other options exhausted adn problems eliminated I feel able to take that step to help. I hope you are all feeling better soon :)

Sue, it sounds like I've been going through a similar thing . . . all was going well for me, too - but then somehow, the area down below got aggravated (about two weeks' ago). I went to Crs #4 last week, and he couldn't find anything awry or that looked different from when he checked me last July. He said he didn't see any fissures - nor did he indicate that he saw anything else that would be worrisome or that would be causing my discomfort.
What I really think is that a surgical area can take a loooong time to heal. There's nothing wrong with taking pain meds, or whatever else will help, if the meds assist in the healing and comfort. Valium is typically a medication prescribed for anxiety - but, it can also be prescribed for muscle spasms, which is why I'm taking it. My discomfort has eased up, a bit, but I do believe that the nightly Valium I'm back on has helped with spasms and muscle tightness.
Good luck and God bless! I totally understand the struggle to get healed.

Aw thank you sweet. Well I have had a development since typing this message. The pain in the coccyx region got to almost unbearable levels on Monday, couldn't sit down. Then last night I got some yellow yucky stuff, the only way I can describe it is bum snot!! Had more today but its eased off and the pain has eased somewhat. I went to my GP to get it checked and she said it looks like I've had a pilonidal sinus. Finally someone says they can see something, there is a very tiny tear/hole and she said my tenderness is right on that which she believes to be a sinus which has drained itself. She told me to have a very low pain threshold and if it gets any worse at all, or I get more discharge to ring the surgery and initially she will prescribe antibiotocs straight away to see if that helps. I have read up on this and realise antibiotics will not get rid of it but just calm it but its worth a try. She's the only one who has identified it, and even said she can't believe all the other medics who've looked have missed it. It's kind of got me down to be honest, and I can't face dealing with another problem. Its a constant uphill struggle, but I feel safer in the knowledge that someone believes me (as most docs have said theres nothing there for the past 8 months). I only hope she will help me to sort this out and its not going to be more YEARS!! I keep reminding myself that I have dealt with all this and I am much stronger emotionally now, but its still a bit lowering to be faced with this. Anyway sweet I hope you find some improvement and relief soon. Keep me updated Image

Sue, you poor dear! OMGosh, I feel for you. Truly, I know how miserable that acute pain is! When my fissure was at its worst, I begged my husband just to shoot me and put me out of my misery. --- I've never heard of a "pilonidal sinus" - but, at least you got diagnosed and can (hopefully) deal with this now. Could you possibly have a fistula? Or are they the same thing?
I'm still having pain and some tenderness. Two weeks' ago, Crs #4 said he didn't see anything different or awry, nor did he see any tears. He also said that area does not seem tight (I had one Crs tell me I was "tight" - okay, no surprise there) - so, I guess the LIS did help with that. --- My pain could be some of this scar tissue - a kind of external-type of post-surgery tag area - that seems to get stretched and then hurts. My discomfort does not feel like my old fissure pain, but it does get very sore sometimes and even burns. (I also have hemorrhoids! Wonderful, huh?) So, I don't know if that tag area is pulling and causing this soreness and burning, or what.
I'm due to see Crs #3 - who did my surgery - next week. I'm going to have him look at the area and see if he sees anything different from what Crs #4 saw (or didn't see).
This is frustrating, but we just have to hang in there and keep trying. I know it's hard - but you're right, at least we're somewhat emotionally stronger, in that we've been dealing with this stuff for awhile and hope to put an end to all of it, before too long. You will be in my prayers, along with everyone else here who is suffering (including myself). HUGS!
