just a suggestion sue, instead of going private all the way why dont you do what i have done? try to find a highly regarded surgeon who does both private and nhs. pay to see him privately and then ask to be switched to his nhs list?
I was expecting to have my second surgery done privately but the dr said there is no point paying, he will just do me on the nhs

Hi Andy,
Thats great news and i am glad Mr Windsor is looking after you. It was also very good of him to give you the NHS option.
He is an extremely professional and experienced surgeon and is one of the best in the country. Before LIS he takes around 25 minutes to have a good look around whilst you are under anaesthetic to ensure there are no other problems.
Should you need me to look at local hotels let me know and i will do all i can to help
Again great news and i hope Mr Windsor was what you were expecting

I'm considering going private again. Unfortunately the guy I went to is meant to be the top one in the area I live in and he said he wouldn't do the LIS on me. So not really sure where to go from here. Starting to accept that there may not be anything else they can do for me. The way I've been feeling today has kind of convinced me to go private for a consultation again to see what he says. Don't know what to do really. I have a new fissure in a different place now. You're right, its two years now, I would have the LIS if I knew someone who would do it!! :(

Andy,
If your father can't pick you and it's on a weeknight let me know. I would be more than happy to walk to the hospital and escort you by taxi to your train seat providing you can be collected at your destination station.
Sue,
I wouldn't accept that response, nobody should have to live with a fissure forever more. If not LIS then there must be alternatives. What is the reason your surgeon is reluctant to perform LIS?

Hi Davo, good news is I have had a hospital appointment come through for next week. Bonus is its in half term so work can't say anything about it!! But thats quite prompt for the NHS, my doctor has had some influence by the sound of it. I don't know the reason he won't do the LIS, but I shall ask more next week as he may change his mind if he realises I have a new fissure. Andy, I'm sorry, I seem to have hi-jacked your thread here. I am sorry, this was not about me at all!! Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I must say a long train journey after an op does not sound like a good option to me. Could you find somewhere to stay overnight? I hope it all goes well and will be checking in on here to see how things are going and will start a new thread to update about my things and not take over yours!!! When is your second LIS? :)

Sue don't be silly I am interested to hear how you are getting on. Have u had any progress?
Davo first of all thank you very much for your offer. It is very kind of you. I did think Mr Windsor was good and I do really want him to treat me. Unfortunately things have not worked out as planned. In order for me to be treated by him, my local nhs trust have to have a meeting about it. Weeks are passing by and I've nt hears anything. So frustrating. And I have also missed the windows to have it done in mid march as I hoped. I know have a dissertation to finish and examsto ccomplete so I am going to have to wait until May. Fingers crossed that my local trust have pulled their fingers out by th en and got me on Mr Windsors list.
So I am playing the waiting game as per usual. Still tearing every 2-3 weeks. It will be two years soon! Very tempting just to pay 3 grand and get it done in a couple of weeks and just hope I can manage with uni work... Who knows.

Sue, any updates?
tomorrow morning I am heading to london for an ultrasound, i am staying at a friends house in london until wednesday and then going for surgery wednesday afternoon. It is with mr windsor, the same man who operated on Davo.
Davo, thank you again for your offer, it is very kind of you.
My friend is going to pick me up in the evening and drive me home though. It is going to be about 5 hour drive unfortunately...not ideal. I am going to recline the seat and try to sit on my side. I will also tell my surgeon about the drive, maybe he will give me more pain killers?!
My main worry though is that it would some how damage the surgery incision, all that sitting on it so soon after. Hopefully it wont be a problem. I have sort of practised sitting in the passenger seat with the seat reclined and I reckon I should be able to alleviate the pressure on my bum.
Anyway, going to be away from monday now, cant wait for it all to be over!!
Oh by the way, I got tired of waiting for the stupid NHS to decide if they would be able to pay for me having it outside of wales, so i booked it private.
Together with the ultrasound I am looking at about 3k in costs!!!!! I just couldnt wait any longer though. I got accepted for a new job which starts in september and I am going to be moving from wales to nottingham so i just wanted it all sorted asap so I am well and truely healed by then. If it works then it will be the best 3k i ever spend! I am part excited, part nervous, and part just absolutly dreading the drive home. I am almost used to having a fissure now, I find it strange to imagine not having one...!

Good luck, Andy!
Definitely be up front with the surgeon about your travel arrangements so they can make any modifications to the anesthesia and/or painkillers and give you any modified postoperative instructions due to the long ride.
Please keep us posted as you feel up to it!

Re: Traveling for surgery

Thanks for the good lucks,
I had my surgery and explained the long journey home. I was given maximum dose of painkillers and also had local anaesthetic to numb the area. Journey was uncomfortable, but better than I thought. I had a pillow under either bum cheek to lift myself up a bit.
On day 3 now. Had 2 quite pain free BMs, which i was extremely pleased about. After the last surgery a BM was so so painful for about 2 weeks. But this time it felt looser, and I felt no fissure pain. Only pain I have is my incision, which is hurting me quite a lot, but this doesnt really surprise me. It feels very tight so when I bend or put weight on it is really sore.
I feel confident that when this settles down though, i will be pain free, as like i said i feel no fissure pain.
I saw mr windsor after my surgery, he said there was no evidence of previous surgery, so it must have been done very conservativly. He approached it like he would if it was my first surgery, and cut 5 mm of sphincter. he said my fissure was very nasty and he feels I took the right option. He said if everything goes well to just give him a ring to save travelling down to london again, so fingers crossed. I have been having quite a lot of baths to keep things clean, as i am not really able to wipe the area because the incision is very sore and tight.
I noticed that when i dab the area there is browny discharge, i dont know if this is wound drainage, or feaces..hoping its the wound! I feel i have control of BM and gas, so all seems good on the incontinence front. I will update in a few days, hopefully with improvements.
