Davo - I'm so glad you're doing better! Just keep up the healthy habits, because maybe that will keep your AF from re-tearing (which is what happened to me).
I'm thinking that an AF (once healed) might be vulnerable to re-tearing, so it's important to keep up a healthy dietary program. I know that's what I'll always have to do, even if I do end up having surgery.

thought i would give an update....
I have now been on the Nitro (GTN) for just over 8 weeks and whilst i am still 'Almost Healed' today has been the first day in three months where i have had 100% pain relief - no pain or sensations during BM or any spasms.
I still have 4 weeks left before the CRS gives me Botox injections so things are looking good however i can still see the small remains of the fissure.
I hope everybody else is improving today

Thanks Sue
I am busy arranging my honeymoon today for our summer wedding so it couldn't have come at a better time really. I hope you are still doing well after your LIS

Thanks Davo
I am doing fabulous!!! I haven't felt this good for many years. No problems at all (knock wood) don't want to jinx myself...LOL Seriously, I wish I had done it a long time ago. What a difference it makes not having to worry about butt problems all the time. Like someone lifted a 1000lb weight off my shoulders.

Davo wrote:Yeah it did make me wonder why he mentioned men, i just presumed it was something to do with the risk of a re-tear during childbirth but it was strange to say the least. Also with me being a man why did he need to tell me that!

It's because men have bigger / stronger sphincter muscles than women.

Yes, the sphincter is a lot shorter in women. The CRs told me this.
Hem Banding sept 2012
2Fissures
Nitro- Effective short term
April 2013-Botox-Effective short term
Diltazem-No effect, developed Rash
July 2014-Diagnosed High Resting Pressure
LIS performed on 17.9.14
Ongoing pain/re-tears. Awaiting pressure test results.

Also, my CRS told me that in women, after menopause, the muscle tone in the anal sphincter reduces and this is good news for anyone prone to fissures - but I guess some of you have a way to go yet before you get to that stage!

Yes, use the GTN. It is prescribed for Anal Fissures. See a colon and rectal surgeon.
