1 week in a half out from surgery and bowel cut me worried.

Postby John75 » 14 Mar 2013, 09:42

Hello everyone i am 33 years old and I just had LIS surgery a week in a half ago. Ive been trying to play around with Mirlax, colace, and some metamucil. I eat a ton of fiber in my diet but I also excercise regularly consume protein and drink tons of water. For some Reason in the morning my first bowel movement comes out and cuts me the first initial piece and the rest comes out softly. Im concerned this morning it happned and it looked like fresh blood on the wipe. I only took 1 colace yesterday it seemed to be working for me at first with 1 cap of mirlax at night. Wasnt fun it felt like a razor blade came out and its so discouraging because I felt like I was gettin better yesterday. Nervous because I dont want the fissure to come back that was the worst pain of my life. Problem is as soon as i take more fiber or stool softners though than it makes me wanna go all day. Has anyone else experienced this? Intital bm always so difficult than the rest of the day not.

Oh yes, the dreaded plug effect. I got rid of mine by replacing oatmeal in the morning, with yoghurt. So far 15 days without a plug :-)

Omg Jhh this is why I have the fissure
In the first place! The plug it always comes out and rips
Me, I make a oatmeal with my egg white omelette that has chia seeds, flax, wheat germ in makes no sense. I eat more fiber than anyone I know yet I have had to take Mirlax for 2 years now and every now and again it will still come out and cut me regardless. I fear switching to more dairy for having more constipation. I will read into it though.

I also find that too much fiber gives me trouble, so I cut down on fiber, and became more stable. But yoghurt in the morning was what really did the trick it seems. I hope you figure out how to avoid the plug too :)

I also had to cut down on the bulky type fibre. It just makes my stools too big and seems to sap every bit of moisture from my body!!
I avoid anything with wheat fibre in it.
It's still early days after your surgery, so maybe cut back on the fibre just a tad for a few more days.
Hope things improve soon

Thanks yes I'm gonna cut the fibre out and just use Mirlax and add more colace seems as though 1 is not enough gonna up it to 3, ill take one in the morning and 2 at night with a cap of Mirlax. This is awful I live such a healthy lifestyle and makes no sense that this has continued to happen so frustrating, even after the surgery it scares the death out of u because when you just have it and that happens you think is that fissure gonna come back or get a new bad one. Very scary!

Hi John, I had the same problem, hard big stools. My dietician told me to cut down the fibre. Soluble fibre softens the stool. Golden Linseeds on porridge help me and magnesium supplement with I stool softener at night. I also peel all fruit and be careful with too much veg, this can go through undigested. I have IBS, but a bad bout if constipation caused my AFS. So now I try everything to keep soft stool. Good luck, keep us posted. Xx
