Are medications a waste of time?

Postby littlebutterfly » 09 Apr 2013, 16:56

When you are crippled with the pain of several fissures and it has robbed you of your life are medications just a waste? Is surgery the best viable option?

Hello Littlebutterfly, sorry you are suffering.
I have multiple fissures, and have been in pain non stop for months.i used the NITRO and the DILT creams first to try and heal.when this didn't work my CRS suggested Botox. i had this done last Thursday with Hem banding. I am seeing a little improvement.
Are you under a CRS? And have you tried the creams, pain meds, stool softeners etc.. Image
Please don't lose hope, there are options that you can
take to control and ease the pain.
Hem Banding sept 2012
2Fissures
Nitro- Effective short term
April 2013-Botox-Effective short term
Diltazem-No effect, developed Rash
July 2014-Diagnosed High Resting Pressure
LIS performed on 17.9.14
Ongoing pain/re-tears. Awaiting pressure test results.

Every body's bott is different, and whilst some heal very well using simple diet changes and topical creams, others end up having surgery.
I would think it wise to try conservative methods first... Read up all you can on here regarding keeping stools soft, eating the right fibre, sitz baths etc... See how it goes for a couple of weeks....
Have you seen a crs? How long have you been suffering?

It's been about five weeks. The level of suffering is beyond anything I could imagine. I have several fissures not one. I saw a GI doc last week who said they were the worst he has seen. He has prescribed me Rectiva. But every time I use the toilet the hell starts again and lasts up to 14 hours. I see a CRS tomorrow for a second opininion. I have late stage Lyme, Finromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, several intestinal infections, malabsorption, allergies. I don't feel strong enough to handle another part of my body dysfunctioning. I know the CRS uses a different cream. The one that ends in "pine." Which cream do you believe in most?

It may be nefadepine ? Many users have had great results with this. Another one, which I have used, is diltiazem. They both provide relief by relaxing the sphincter muscles and promoting blood flow, which in turn aids healing.
I'm so sorry you are suffering from multiple fissures and so many other painful conditions... You must be feeling thoroughly miserable.
Let us know how you get on tomorrow

So I went to the CRS today. I am having surgery. The chances of this healing with cream alone are slim to none and the pain is just unbearable. One week from today. This is very hard for me as I LOVE to eat. I must admit soy chocolate ice cream is my nemesis. Do I have to be careful for the rest of my life with my diet now? That is brutal for me!

Unfortunately, or forunately, depends on how you look at it, this may be your best bet.
I would ask myself, whats more brutal giving up this or that, or walking around with a "lighted lighter" up your butt feeling all the time.
Please littlebutterfly, I've been where you are. I loved certain foods, but they just kept giving me problems. It took me a long time before I finally said to hell with this pain, I'm cutting out this that and the other. And I finally won the battle.
Please keep trying, though surgery may help you, your still gonna wanna watch your food intake.
After conquering my fissures, there are some foods I would not dare eat like I did before. I may try em' once in a blue moon, but to eat them regularly like I did before would just make my old dormant fissures the happiest assassins alive.
Please do make a conscious effort to really watch what you eat. I know its hard for you, "butt" your "anus" will reward you for this.
HTH
P.S. It may be that Loving to eat and AF's go hand-in-hand
