LIS Surgery Post-Op 7 Weeks

Postby aros52 » 30 Apr 2013, 14:45

My fissure appears to be reopened. I am having the exactly same pain I had before the surgery. Is this normal for the fissure to reopen? I've had hard bowel movements this past week and think that could be the cause of the relapse. I thought I was doing well until this happened.

I haven't tried surgery yet, so don't know. However, my PA/CRS specialist told me that no matter what route I chose (diet, medical management, botox, LIS) I would need to make life-long changes in diet and bowel management. Are you taking steps to avoid hard BMs? I'm still trying to figure this out for my body, but it seems a key to healing based on reading numerous posts, researching on-line etc. I hope it is just a minor set-back for you!!!!! Image

I am about 3 months post LIS and having a similar problem. :( I didn't have hard BMs so I don't know what caused it. But at my exam my CRS confirmed that I had a new fissure which was in the process of healing...then a few days later I felt it tear again. So depressing. My CRS did say that the LIS should help it to heal up "like a normal person who doesn't have a chronic fissure" so I am hanging on to that hope, taking baths, and upping my softeners.

Hang in there becsbum! Positive thinking and relaxation go a long way toward healing- or at the very least toward maintaining your sanity!

Iam almost 3 weeks post LIS the first few days were great big bowel movements no fissure pain or tearing just incision site pain. On the second week the incision site pain wasn't bad but the old familiar fissure pain began to return. I would get leg pains all the time so I knew the fissure was back I also felt the chard feeling on another site (not the fissure site). I hope that this is normal healing process for both of us

I get twinges in new spots also. I did go to (a new) CRS a couple weeks ago to get checked out, and she said I am healed from this new fissure. Like the CRS who did my surgery, she suggested physical therapy. She also recommended Magnesium supplements which help with muscles and also soften stools. So it's possible these pains are just your muscles and nerves reacting to all they've been through. Over time they should relax! When do you see your surgeon again to check your healing?

I see him on June 12th. I hope if I have a new one that it can heal faster since the sphincter should be loose. It feels tight though like before 2 weeks post op and my stools have shrunk down again. I have upped my fiber and tapered down the miralax in hopes to get the full stools again. They were very healthy the first week I need to get back to that. I just hope I don't severely tear this new If one in doing so. It seems counterintuitive to bulk stools but I guess it's right everywhere I read says to bulk stools for fissures. The miralax alone keeps them very skinny. The thing that bothers me is my CRS just goes in has a quick look like 2 seconds literally. I want a thorough exam I want to know what's going on. Isn't there some diagnostic I.e. root cause analysis for these things?
