Spasm???

Postby daveh » 22 May 2013, 17:43

What exactly does a spasm feel like and does anybody know if it is possible to have an AF without experiencing spasms. I'm sure I have an AF but I'm not sure I've experienced spasms. I get the pain during/after a BM and I've been jumping straight in a hot bath, that mostly sorts me out, other than an annoying nagging pain that may or may not last for a bit, but it doesn't feel like what I'd imagine a spasm to feel like, it's more of a stinging pain or a dull ache, but not excruciating, so I'm wondering can you have an AF but not get the spasms?

A spasm for me has felt painful and achy and at other times it just feels very tight. You can feel back there and if the muscle is very tight then it's spasm-ing. It differs between people

I really wouldn't know what to feel for, or where to feel, I am imagining a spasm to be like cramp, or a stitch in the rib area, I don't think I'm getting them, or if I am, they are mild compared to some of the stories I've read on here. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by it feels tight, this may make me seem a bit daft because it's an obvious answer, but what exactly is it that feels tight? I don't feel as if I've experienced any tightness, just some pain.

Spasms are when your anus throbs. Also it feels inflamed and this is why you take a warm bath for 30 minutes 3 x a day. This is something that is difficult for some people, like me with roommates, but it helps so MUCH. Just enough warm water to cover the rectal area. I sit in a few inches of water, relaxed, with my legs to the side, then after a few minutes as the water cools,I add more warm water, and I move my legs a bit. Relief for about two hours.

you may not feel the spasm the way you would a muscle spasm in another part of your body. The muscle may spasm and tighten in response to the fissure, but you may experience it as the pain of the cut, or irritation, or burning, or aching, throbbing, pinching, stinging, or various other kinds of descriptions of pain.

For lack of better words put your leg up and feel your bum hole with your finger, if its very tight then it's in a spasm. At least thats how i know. Also sometimes if its really bad it could be hard to pass gas because its so tight. Massaging it out helps relax it along with warm baths.

I think everyone processes pain differently. For me, a spasm felt like shards of glass or a fire poker being jabbed into my rectum. Nasty stuff. Three weeks post surgery (LIS), and I hope those are a thing of the past. Hoping you feel better soon, ctf

I couldn't have said it better. All of the above is true. The level of spasm differs from person to person. It depends on the length and depth of the fissure wound.

So it seems as if I may be experiencing spasms then, but just not as often or as severe as others are putting up with. I'll take that as a positive sign that I may have a tiny fissure then and hopefully this gives me a better chance to heal without any procedures then. I've got my fingers crossed guys, thanks for the responses. Best wishes to everybody.

It sounds to me like you do have spasms but not strong ones. My genuine advice to you would be to try to improve things anyway, with diet and lifestyle if possible, you want it to get better and not worse... really.
