Has any one used an enema...

Postby Please go-away! » 14 Jun 2013, 16:29

As recommended by my Gastro Doctor last visit, increase my fiber, baby kale mix, almonds prunes, chickpeas, high fiber toast and bagels and Metamucil plus  fish and chicken, carrots. up my water..I am, I am.
I took a dose of Restoralax, yesterday and today.I feel I have to go, peeing constantly with my sphincter/ rectum trying to open, I don't push, still intense pain and then it all calms down with just a drop of poo or small string like amount...I have been in and out of the bathroom all day, so tired, so very frustrated.
I even called the Telehealth (like telephone) Ontario hotline, I told the nurse my problem and I asked if I could use an enema,  she said not today, because it would not be safe combined with the Restoralax...Sorry  I went on to long,  The help line nurse recommended I take the enema tomorrow..has any one  experienced using enemas.
Please get back,  thank you and I wish every one a quick recovery.Image

Oops I forgot to add, the nurse asked if any obstruction was there, pushing out of my anus,,I didn't feel like there was, just a ballooning sensation coming from my bottom and rectum, as I'm so plugged up there.
She put me on hold to go through all my conditions, reactions and suggested that I go to a emergency walk in clinic or hospital, within the next 3 to 4 hours, if I have severe pain, bloating and nausea/ vomiting,
None of that has happened yet.
I'm going to try and relax, lay down, and please get back Re; the Enemas, has any one tried them and do they work, will it help me if,any one has a similar situation like me.Image:grouphugs:we all need hugs..:)

I have used an enema. You buy them at the pharmacy, rub something for lubrication on your anus and insert the small applicator in while lying on your left side, your right leg pulled up towards your chest. Relax as much as you can while doing it, and keep the liquid in as long as possible.
I used Fleet Naturals for my enema before I had a sgmoidoscopy. Had to order them.
You might be overloading your system with too much fibre. As a woman you need only about 25-30g a day.
Feel better soon. Lisiten to what the nurse says. Use a Sitz bath as well to relax the anus.

Yes, I have used enemas effectively to cure myself of fissures. Constipation is a fissures best friend an enema can relive that. I am not speaking about store bought enema they are not intended for longer term use.
I am also fighting IBS which is why I ended up with fissures in the 1st place successfully with enemas.

I think you overdid it with the fiber. I only eat one slice of bread a day. High fiber bagels...  Processed food, stay away.
Metamucil on top of that, no. Metamucil ripped me open one time with a big hard stool that came shooting out like a rocket. I have not needed an enema but if i thought my ass way going to rip open i would take one. The only thing im on is miralax however. I dont know what the other drug u are on is.  And oh yeah, go to a colorectal surgeon, not a gi doctor. My gi doctor doodled me up with a conoscopy. They dont know squat about treating a fissure. They tell u load up the fiber, but that is not true, you need to balance the fiber.

if you have pressure and are plugged up - do the enema - it always works, just follow the instructions and hold it as long as you can before sitting on the loo. Restoralax takes 4 days before it starts working, it is NOT a quick fix for constipation - do the enema, or take a dose of milk of magnesia, that works well.
Once you are cleared out a bit, take oil: extra virgin olive, or coconut - 2 or 3 tbsps a day - it is good for you and keeps the GI tract healthy, also really helps in keeping things sliding through you better.

I also agree you sound like you are getting too much fibre & it's bulking up your stool. This was my problem too my stools were huge & ripping me every time I had a BM.
Use the enema & cut back on fibre also use Vaseline on anus helps it slide out easier.
Hope you get some relief soon 😊

Thank you all , that's exactly what I,m  doing..My sister insists that I go back to my G.P and, and ask her to refer me to a gastro, /anal specialist affiliated in her hospital, or my brother who has Crohns, suggested that my Doctor refer to him.
Thanks again:bouncing heart..
