Hi, I'm Rosemary -I'm new.

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself to the group. It's nice to be here to have an outlet to express concerns on.
My doctor decided surgery would be best for me for an anal fissure I've had for 9 weeks now. Yes, I didn't realize how painful condition it was or even what it was till I developed the condition. I'm a little better now though, at least.
My concern today is I'm fearful of the surgery some, and yet, at the same time, I'm very relieved to be having it, because my doctor and I had tried all the lesser means of trying to heal it.
At any rate, I was reading a little on here to listen to what people had to say and you guys really helped! The different experiences put me at ease and make me realize I'm not alone with this condition. So, thanks for being here.
My main question at this point would be how painful is recovery and how long is recovery-I realize there will be a variety of answers to that since we are all individuals but it would help if anyone that would like to could share the answer to that with me.
I have a large fissure he said with a small hemmoroid, so he said, "we'll get rid of all that for you." I assume that means in addition to the small cut in my spinchter muscle he mentioned, he will probably excise or cut out those 2 things , so I would think that would make my surgery just a little more painful. He's a doctor I very much trust, and that is really helping me feel secure about the operation!
It's great to be here and I definitely! wish you all the best health in the world for anything you may be suffering with or healing from.
Sincerely, Rosemary54

Hi Rosemary, welcome to the group! I'm sorry to hear you've been suffering from an anal fissure--as much as I love a new member to the forum I hate that you have a fissure! :(
My surgery is turning out to be on of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm 5 days post LIS and I only had 1 or 2 days of real recovery... Meaning I only had about 2 days of pain before I was already able to walk normally, sit, even jog (SHORT!) distances. On my third day I was already in a car, and today (5th day) I even drove for about 20 minutes (I drive stick). Aside from a bit of pain, twinges here and there, I am literally pain free. I get itchy at times though, but that just means that it's healing. :)
I was seriously dreading BMs after surgery but it seems I have nothing to worry about, thankfully! If you want to learn more about my experience feel free to check out my little diary on this forum!

I hope I was able to help. :) Of course my experience might be different from yours (there were no hemorrhoids to excise and the doctor didn't want to remove my skin tag). For reference, I have 3 fissures. 1 really deep anterior one at 12 oclock, another one at posterior 6 oclock, and one more that my doctor said was negligible cause it would heal on its own. My incision was made at 9 oclock and stitched up. Other than that my old fissures were left alone.

Hi Rosemary, this is such a great place to find answers and advice but as you say, each Person is different.
I've had 2 fissures, started about 4 years ago. Been through all the creams and whilst on the referral list to see a colorectal specialist (CRS) my fissures became chronic (not easily treated by just creams and needs surgical intervention).
9 weeks is not a long time to have been suffering so you're very lucky to be catching it so soon. Mine was having issues repairing so the scar tissue formed and after every bowel Movement (BM) I would retear.
My surgery - double fissurectomy, skin tag removal and Botox was 12 days ago.
I was petrified of surgery as I've never really been for hospital treatment before and never had general anaesthetic. When I came out, surprisingly I had no pain whatsoever. My first BM was excruciating but that's because the surgery made me slightly constipated despite taking stool softeners. I had 4 days post surgery without a BM which was great. My 1st BM was rather large and so did hurt - But I have to say that was the worst pain of the whole experience. After that, my pain levels have been dropping and hopefully with the right diet and routine, I'll be healed very very soon.
My story is here- http://anal-fissure.org/t6886-sharing-my-double-fissurectomy-botox
I picked up some great advice from this forum so use it and abuse it.
Let us know how it goes.
