Advice needed on itching..

Postby Mutant » 05 Aug 2013, 19:10

I think now it is more than 40days after i got AF . I still have that. I have seen in the mirror yesterday.
Before I had pain while cleaning after the poop. Now these days pain is gone though i still have the AF. But i get extreme itching on near areas where i can't avoid put finger and scratch the area. This itching is not pain. It is like the same feeling if you get pinworm infection. Same feeling i have. But it can't be pinworm infection for sure. For your information i never used any medication or cream for this all i did is change the diet and drink more water.
Now i need a solution for this itching (Again not pain). And i want to know why this itching happening after the pain is gone. Even the pain i had before only while cleaning the poop. while pooping i felt but not extreme. now i have itching but not at the time of pooping. Pain is 90% gone.
Thanks you.

Healing can often be signs of healing with cuts etc. I have some itching, and my surgeon told me yesterday there are things you can do to help:
1. Don't wipe after you poop. You should wash the area with clean water, no soap. Just hop into the shower, or bath!, if you can. If not, you can buy wet wipes, and use those.
2. Drink less caffine. Coffee, tea, coke, chocolate, even fruit juices that are acidy.
3. Wear loose underwear. Don't wear underwear too tight, and if you feel itchy you can change your underwear during the day. (Sweat can be itchy!)
4. Don't scratch! You'll only make it worse.
It won't go away over night, but try these and they might help you!

Sudocrem is a great itch relief for me. I also used an ice pack when it got bad. It numbs the area and will take the edge off it. All your nerves will recoil and hopefully will give you some relief. Don't wear underwear to bed either, let it free. Give it air.
Hope that helps.

Mutant,
Just a couple of thoughts but do you have a Sentinel/ pile in that area that could be irritating you?
If this is the case, sometimes they can itch when they are inflamed or if the tiniest piece of debris gets trapped in that area in a fold of skin???
I still get this issue very ocassionally and find using a hand held shower gently on that area clears everything extemely thoroughly.
Other than that, I would just double-check that with a GP/ CRS particularly if it is really troubling you........
Chronic Fissure diagnosed December 2011
Healed by Diltiazem around Feb 2013
Anal Fistula followed burst abscess in June 2012
2 internal troublesome piles remain & suspected, but undiagnosed, ongoing Levator Ani type symptoms & flare-ups

Mutant, You are not alone, I still remember the horrible itching in the area while I was healing, boy of boy you just want to get in there and dig and dig.
But that is not a good thing to do, my CRS prescribed me cortisone cream for it that helps a lot but you need to be careful and use it sparingly as it can thin the skin.
Perhaps your doctor can help like Ever the Optimist recommended.
I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Mutant,
I'm getting terrible itching too. It's almost unbearable, and sometimes I just can't help myself, I have to rub it, and then it feels worse for a while. I'm using Diltiazem, and applying it makes me burn like H3LL.
I don't know if it's a good sign that I'm healing, but it doesn't FEEL like a good thing. My sentinel pile seems bigger and there are other lumps forming - I'm going to try to get an appointment with the colorectal nurse to 1) ask her about the itch and 2) ask her if I'm healing at all.
I'll let you know if she has any good advice. Good luck!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
