Gluten free eaters

Postby Kreaybutt » 25 Aug 2013, 07:16

So I've been thinking about trying gluten free products but when I read the ingredients "Potatoe starch" is always a main one. Now isn't the starch in potatos suppose to be binding? Do you have any issues eating it? Sorry if this is a dumb or obvious question!

Hi kreaybutt,
I follow the FODMAP plan for IBS. Since I haven't touched wheat or gluten for over 3 months now, I feel great. My symptoms have vastly improved and I digest my food so much better! I will never eat wheat again! I think there is such a small amount of the starch in there it wouldn't affect anything. My dietician told me that starchy products Ie potatoes, rice etc are worse to digest if reheated. So I don't ever do this. Everything cooked from scratch and fresh. You could try gluten free bread first to see. The DS ciabatta rolls are amazing with salad and chicken. Also the pasta is amazing! I now don't notice any difference, and I definitely think it has helped to improve my BMs and my IBS symptoms. Good luck xxx

Sounds yummy! I have baked gluten free Flapjacks, banana muffins and I make my own jelly, mousse etc.... Everything tastes yum, and it is so much lighter on the digestive system. I have a fab Gluten free baking book, which has all kind of recipes. Do you have any bowel issues? Even if you don't it will still be of benefit. I know some people follow a wheat and Gluten free diet, just to be healthier. Gwyneth Paltrow has a book out, that is great too. Xx
