Using manuka honey

Postby guest1 » 27 Oct 2013, 14:19

Hello there,
I find this forum very supportive , since this is so sensitive topic and it is hard to talk to friends about it.
I had my fissure since July this year and find this condition very confusing. It got better 3 times , no bleeding less pain, but then it got worse recently.. again bleeding. I used Proctosydel and do not want to go back on it , so I am trying to find a natural stuff.
So far I am doing sitz baths, nefedipine ointment, meditation, high fiber diet, walking
I read some posts about manuka honey and I am trying it now topically just putting externally. I bought 2 products. One is 20+ manuka honey in a can and another one 12+ wound manuka honey. The main difference is that wound manuka honey is sterilized.
I did not like texture of wound honey that I bought on amazon, since it has sugar crystals and it may irritate the area.
So I am using manuka honey from a can with coconut oil or Vaseline.
My question is could I put it a bit internally? Anybody had used manuka honey?
Also how do you cope emotionally with this so confusing and long standing condition.
Wishing to all and myself to get better soon !

Hello! I am interested too.
I tried our local medicinal honey. They sell it sterilised packed in small tubes. It is chestnut honey, claimed to have ability to cure stubborn chronic wounds, burns etc... But for me it was not good. I applied a little internaly Severe pain, lasted for few hours and then burning. I called the producer and they said that they considered anal use, but it turned out that it was not beneficial for the anal canal.
But i read some anecdotal reports from users, how miraculously manuka honey works for fissure.
Disabling burning, drilling pain in anal area for almost a year, started after UT infection. Small anal fissure diagnosed, turned out it is probably not the cause of pain, MRI shows no inflammation or fistula. Grateful to forum members for support.

I bought the best Manuka hney I could buy, which was an import from New Zealand. Unfortunately it stung, so I resorted to eating it instead! Delicious but did nothing for he AF.

The little research that has been done has been fairly inconclusive - "A 2002 review found that although the antibacterial activity of honeys (including mānuka honey) had been demonstrated in vitro, the number of clinical case studies was small. The review concluded that there was a potential for its use in "the management of a large number of wound types".A 2008 Cochrane Review found that honey may help improve superficial burns compared to standard dressing, but there was insufficient evidence from studies, many of which were on mānuka honey, to be conclusive, and the use of honey for leg ulcers provided no benefit. The review found that there was insufficient evidence for any benefit in other types of chronic wounds, as all of the data came from a single centre of research, and that "data from trials of higher quality found honey had no significant effect on healing rates or had significantly slower rates of healing" This from:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mānuka_honey

I have tried manuka honey. I have used wound honey too. None of it really did anything to help to be honest.
I don't even like the taste of it to be honest... But I do take a small teaspoon just for any health benefits it "might" have.
